==> Mick is 65 now, there's a NEW DEAL, NEW PLANS, Ronnie's Rehab, Antics and the next tour!
=> Pics of Ronnie as he took a walk outside the rehab centre on July 30th. He looks scared, unsure and vulnerable ... but serious. Some more pics you'll find in te dailymail.co.uk!
I believe he'll be straight! Let's wish him all he needs to get sober and strong!
Boozy Ronnie Wood vowed to dry out and tour with the Rolling Stones - as a birthday gift for best pal MICK JAGGER.
In an emotional call from rehab, Ronnie, 61, told Mick, who was 65 yesterday: "Let's get the band on the road again before 2010."
Now does this sound promising or WHAT!??!
[...] But he knows his only hope of fulfilling the dream is to quit drinking. A source close to Ronnie said: "He wants to get better for his family - but also for the band. "They want to keep touring as long as they physically can and Ronnie doesn't want to let the others down. "He is doing really well in rehab and everyone close to him hopes he will make a full recovery and quit drinking once and for all. Mick has been really supportive and is delighted Ronnie has finally seen sense."
VIDEO-TIP:
SAINT OF ME from Bridges to Babylon
#1 Our heartfelt greetings to Mr. Jagger as He just turned 65!
One thing that Sir Mick Jagger assuredly will not be worrying about this morning is how he is going to manage on his £87-a-week old age pension. [ ... ] Diffident [... compared to Ronnie and his recent antics ...] and rather quiet offstage, he remains a sizzling showman in front of an audience. Now branching out into film production, Mick the pensioner has achieved all the satisfaction he could want, and the Stones’ hit Not Fade Away still holds true.
#2 The new deal
Sir Mick Jagger yesterday supplemented his state pension by striking a £7.5 million deal that will take four decades of the Rolling Stones’ catalogue away from his long-time record company EMI. Albums such as Black and Blue and Exile on Main Street are estimated to generate about £1.5 million a year.
A spokesman for the Rolling Stones said: "The band are looking forward to working with Universal Music and are excited about this new venture."
Speaking last year Sir Mick insisted that the band had no intention of bringing their career to a close. "I'm sure the Rolling Stones will do more things and more records and more tours," he said. "We've got no plans to stop any of that really."
Ok, you might have already read all those bits about Ronnies affair with that russian waitress, his booze abuse, his wife Jo's wrath and his re-entering rehab.
Latest news about Ronnie sound promising: he's out for walks, does some football kickabout and still wears his wedding ring; Jo is going to visit him tomorrow (July 27th). Some more from the SUN: Strolling Stone goes for ramble
In case you missed something, here's the most reliable source for everything of this kind of tabloid smack: The Sun ...
The telegraph reports:
" Keith Richards sported his familiar pirate look, replete with green headscarf, while the bride's father Ronnie Wood, 61, wore the kind of suit so skinny that only a living rock and roll legend could get away with.
Wood's daughter Leah was resplendent in a pre-Raphaelite-inspired gown with pleated bodice and billowing skirt.
Miss Wood, a 29-year-old model who also sings in a rock band, married Jack MacDonald, a television producer and her boyfriend of 11 years at Southwark Cathedral, close to the banks of the Thames in London."
==> RIP Bo Diddley!
Primal rock and blues musician Bo Diddley, who helped cast the sonic template
of rock more than 50 years ago with a signature syncopated rhythm that
became universally recognized as "the Bo Diddley beat," died Monday. He
was 79.
Diddley died of heart failure at his home in Archer, Fla., spokeswoman
Susan Clary said.
Jagger said the US rock 'n' roll pioneer, who has died at the age of
79, was "a wonderful, original musician".
Jagger, whose band recorded cover versions of Mona and Crackin' Up, said: "He
was very generous to us in our early years and we learned a lot from
him. ... We will never see his like again."
==> A good read: What's in it for the Rolling Stones?
~ Sex, drugs and celluloid:
the unlikely sheltering of Jagger & co ~
Under this title you'll find some good lines to read about the Stones
and their latest film. It's by the honorable Times of England and
written by Alan Jencins, Deputy Editor of the TLS which is "The Times
Literally Supplement" - no less!
[Here is a small sample; you'll find the link to the complete text below]
"No such misgivings are allowed to mar Shine a Light, which is all rolling,
rollicking fun from beginning to end, and even features a turn by
the blues legend Buddy Guy, declared inspiration of both Richards
and Rocking Ronnie Wood (who have the best moments of their evening
jamming with him). “Comical
little geezer”, James Fox’s hard man calls a capering Turner/Jagger
in Performance; “You’ll look funny when you’re fifty.” At
over sixty, he doesn’t look funny at all; he looks as if he’s
enjoying himself, doing the only thing he knows how to do. The Rolling
Stones are not quite what they were, or what they set out to be all
those years ago, but they seem grateful enough to still be here,
living the music, performing their songs. Ronnie Wood puts this nicely
in his book when he says that, what with all the paraphernalia of fame,
the meeting-and-greeting, the press and the photo shoots and the small
army of helpers, family, friends and hangers-on that accompanies the band
everywhere on their practically non-stop tour of the world (only Bob Dylan
seems a more indefatigable survivor), he and Keith look forward to getting
out on stage, for a bit of peace and quiet. Of course: that’s what’s
still in it, for all of them."
Keith owns about 3000 (three thousand, in words) guitars, maybe more, maybe less. Anyway, he calls this an "incredible collection of beautiful instruments" and due to the fact that he can't and even didn't has played all of them - as he claims, he plays only 10 of them haww, haww... - he thinks about opening up a museum. He even started to give them away: you might have seen the scene in Shine A Light where he gave his guitar away to Buddy Guy.
All those guitars, and all of them such beautiful instruments. He comments: "I
don't know what I've done to deserve that. I've been one of the biggest
assholes in the world!"

Rolling: 40 Years of The Rolling Stones on Film
Matt Singer from IFC.com has written something like a filmography about
the Stones on film. He writes: "In honor of their 40 years on movie
screens, from 1968's "Sympathy for the Devil" to last week's release of "Shine
a Light," we're taking a look at The Rolling Stones' filmography, featuring
enough collaborations with great directors to make any actor jealous
and enough abandoned or aborted projects to give any movie investor
heartburn."
The Rolling Stones and the YouTube video Web site have teamed up to launch
a new entertainment channel.
According to a statement from the band and record label Universal,
fans can upload questions to the Stones about "Shine a Light", a
new documentary about the veteran rockers directed by Martin Scorsese,
as well as "any other burning questions." [more]

The Rolling Stones attend the premiere of their "rockumentary", Shine A Light, in London's West End. The Rolling Stones are Planning Their 23rd Album!!
[Now this is definitely good news, right? There are at least
two credible sources for this ant you can read a few more lines
of this issue there: Starpulse.com and
Contactmusic.com.
Ok, here goes:]
The Rolling Stones are planning to head
back to the studio later this year to begin recording their 23rd
studio album.
As soon as they get a break, Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
will sit down and write new tracks. Guitarist Richards reveals, "I
think we might make another album. Once we get over doing promotion
on this film."
He adds some remarks about longevity: "We love what we
do, simple as that. We were the whipping hounds, you know, but
that's calmed down. Now we're the wrinkled rockers, right? But
I still have the energy. I put that down
to not eating a lot. And drinking a lot. Not eating a lot, and
good weed. Honestly
I'd do this job even if I were in a wheelchair."
[We even have a comment from Charlie and this counts double,
I think:]
Drummer Charlie Watts is particularly keen to keep working,
claiming he gets ill whenever he stops: "I
think we should carry on. It seems that whenever we stop I get
ill. The last time we
had a break I got throat cancer. I do all my exercises, I don't
smoke, and I don't drink, yet I'm the one in the band that got
it."
Ronnie plans his next solo project
He reports that apart from promoting the current Stones documentary,
Shine A Light, he sais:
"I've
got a few things up my sleeve. I'm hoping to put my next studio
album out once we get a break from promoting this documentary ...
I'm planning on bringing in The Charlatans, Kelly Jones from
The Stereophonics and Paulo (Nutini) and I'm going to get my
old drummer Andy Newmark back together again. We're going to go
in the studio and then take it live once the record comes out."
Hilarious! Blackpool has lifted his ban on
the band from the year 1964. Now the Stones are free to perform
in Blackpool again, and I think, they should do so immediately!
;-) Much more so, because Keith already said, that he suffers
from some serious
case of tour-withdrawal (breakingnews.iol.ie)!
However, as the artlicle
about the Blackpool-ban (metro.co.uk) sais, a Spokeswoman
of the Stones said, there are no concrete plans for another
tour.
YET, I might add!

New York but failed to succeed due to bad weather conditions...

Stones to attend premiere in London
All four members of the Rolling Stones will attend the
London premiere of ‘Shine A Light’ on April 2nd.
The double cd “Shine A Light” by the Rolling
Stones will hit the shelves on April 4, 2008.
Info about the Rolling Stones concert film “Shine a Light”:
In the fall of 2006 the Rolling Stones permormed at New York’s
Beacon Theatre. In the almost intimate atmosphere of the old
theater it became obvious again why Mick Jagger, Keith Richards,
Ron Wood and Charlie Watts are legends. In front of an enthusiastic
audience, which included Hilary and Bill Clinton, the Stones
performed their worldwide hits as well as lesser-known songs.
Guest appearances by Christina Aguilera, the blues legend Buddy
Guy and Jack White (White Stripes “) made the evening memorable.
Along with the Stones themselves also stars such as Bill Clinton,
Hilary Clinton, Christina Aguilera, Jack White and Buddy Guy
are part of the action. And Martin Scorsese as a director is
probably the best guarantee of truly great cinema.

Stones say no to drugs!
[...]
While at the premiere of Martin Scorcese’s new
Stones documentary, Shine s Light, in Berlin this week,
Sir Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, warned all the young dudes
and dudettes out about the dangers of drugs.
“When we were experimenting with drugs, little was known about the effects,” Jagger
told reporters. “In our time, there were no rehab centres. Anyway, I did
not know about them.”
[...]
Very entertaining, very much recommended:the
complete press conference in *good* quality; no overdubbs.
There is some from the photo-shooting in the beginning; then you
can skip the pause and start with the PC at 6:50...
Once underway, the tardy set list is broken up by amusing
archive footage of the Stones in various interviews of the
past, sometimes in a near catatonic state.
"What is the most frequent question you're asked?" asks a
reporter of an unlined Mick Jagger. "How long I'll be singing
with the band for," he replies,
without irony.
There are laugh out loud moments provided by Keith Richards,
especially when he's asked what he does before going on stage.
Where's the gig? The Berlinale Festival has
it's english pages over here: berlinale.de/en/HomePage.html;

And there's a press release from today which reads:
Feb 6, 2008 - A Dazzling Opening Night for the 58th Berlinale
With the world premiere of the Rolling Stones concert film,
Shine a Light by Oscar-winner Martin Scorsese, the 58th Berlin
International Film Festival will open tomorrow, February 7,
2008. Director Martin Scorsese, and Stones Mick Jagger, Keith
Richards, Charlie Watts and Ron Wood are all coming to Berlin
to attend this big event ... more...
If you don't mind some german, here are some more news sources:
"The
Berlin Film Festival will start with a bang Thursday with the
premiere of a Rolling Stones documentary by Hollywood legend
Martin Scorsese, kicking off 11 days of star turns, live music
and a race for the Golden Bear top prize."(afp.com)

Chuck Berry will be there: on Wednesday he'll be there to pic

Madonna, Scarlett Johansson, Penelope Cruz, Daniel Day-Lewis
and Bollywood heartthrob Shah Rukh Khan are among the stars
who will follow Scorsese and the self-proclaimed "world's
greatest rock'n'roll band" down the red carpet.
The 58th edition will feature around 400 pictures from around
the world. "Shine A Light", the Rolling Stones film, will screen
out of competition.
The DAILY MAIL has this article about the new film of Scorcese,
o be shown at the Berlin film festival on February 7th. It
is a joy to read - just a pleasure! The author, Baz Bamigboye
writes:
"I saw it this week and I don't think I've seen a rock
artist so alive on screen.
Jagger's a force of nature: bottle that energy
and you'd have profits to rival Shell's.
You don't stay at the
top of your game for four decades, though, by being easy-going."
Two weeks before the start of his seventh go-round and Berlin's
58th,
Dieter
Kosslick is bouncing off the walls of his spacious Potsdamer
Platz office in anticipation of opening night.
Like all fest directors, he's had his fair share of first-night
duds -- "I have this saying that the opening-night film
is also an opening nightmare film" -- but with the world
preem of Martin Scorsese's Rolling Stones concert doc, "Shine
a Light," he
has no doubt that he's hit the jackpot.
"People are already asking me," bubbles the 59-year-old
Berlinale Direktor, "'Isn't it a bit early to make the
biggest coup in your seven years by getting the Rolling
Stones? How can you top that next year?'"
Sadly,
it's only a one album deal and covers the soundtrack of "Shine
A Light", but who knows what's about to come within
the next months? However, the Stones have left troubled EMI
and I bet they got their share...
Scorsese
and the band are both expected to
make appearances at the festival on February 7th in
the german capital.
In making the announcement, Festival Director Dieter Kosslick
said "We are extremely excited to have the World Premiere of
this magnificent film as our opening gala. Martin Scorsese
has again set the gold standard when it comes to capturing
the pure essence of an iconic band on the big screen."
The film will be released in North America, UK and most of
Europe on April 4th, 2008 by Paramount Classics.
The Mirror writes:
... Supermodel Kate hugged Ronnie, 60, when it all got too
much for him during Jamie's wedding to his long-term love
Jodie.
The tabloid insider firther noted that "Ronnie wept as
Jodie produced a framed photo of the grandparents and Ronnie's
brothers who have died. It was all very emotional." At the
reception, Ronnie sang songs from
his recent First Barbarians CD - and some Stones classics.

In fact, Wood said he's ''already been approached'' by producers
