December 18 - Happy Birthday, Keith!=> The man's 71 today! Bless his bluesy heart! Keep on rolling, Keef, keep on rolling! December 17 - Tour Rumors: Vegas in June 2015?=> It's about time for the next rumor-season, right? We had it here at stonesnews.com already, but nevertheless, it's nice to hear something like this: First rumbles are afoot that The Rolling Stones are planning a U.S. tour next summer and that a June stop is set for Las Vegas. No other details yet. That's taken from lasvegassun.com. December 15 - Ronnie joins One DirectionOne Direction were joined by Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood as they performed live on The X Factor yesterday. More on this at NME.com December 14 - back in the heydeys, Mick in PNG and Mustique=> Mick has spent a week vacation in Papua New Guinea. After the close of the tour of Australia and New Zealand, he's expected to stay at his house in Mustique in the Caribbean. As usual, he will host a party for New Year's Eve and his family will be close by. => At the dailymail.co.uk, you can have a nice look back on the sixties heydays when it all began - check out the group picture from 1964 show ready-steady-go! December 5 - Recommended Reads=> As with this weeks loss of two of our dearest friends, here's something worth reading if you haven't already: for one, there's an article at RollingStone.com: "Keith Richards Remembers the 'Hidden Genius' of Bobby Keys". Then, they also have "The Lost Rolling Stone Interview" with Bobby which I can also recommend. December 3 - RIP, Ian McLagan! You will be greatly missed, too!![]() Ian suffered a stroke on Monday and was admitted to Brackenridge Hospital on Tuesday, where he died Wednesday at 2:39pm, aged 69. The band must be reeling this week, another Mc Lagan, will not roll on forever. McLagan was an absolute master of the Hammond B3 organ. He has played with Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Chuck Berry, Joe Cocker, Bonnie Raitt and John Mayer and collaborated extensively with Billy Bragg. Much more, he was an integral member of two of the great British bands, The Small Faces and The Faces. Both Keys and McLagan were members of Ronnie Woods occasional band The New Barbarians. December 2 - RIP, Bobby! You will be missed very much!We have lost one One-Off sax player! Bobby Keys has died at age 70. Bobby worked with The Rolling Stones, this we know, but he also appeared on albums from Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Who, George Harrison, Joe Cocker and Eric Clapton. Keys' death was confirmed to Nashville Scene by Michael Webb, keyboardist for Bobby Keys and the Suffering Bastards. Webb told Nashville Scene that Bobby "had been battling cirrhosis and passed away at his home in Franklin (Tennessee) early this morning." November 25 - Ok, what's next? USA, SA 2015!?=> Like we have pondered before, it seems likely that The Rolling Stones will play some gigs in North America during spring next year. Vitalvegas.com mentions that "Sources Confirm Bruce Springsteen, Rolling Stones Will Join Rock in Rio USA Music Festival Line-Up". That's promising, although we don't know, what or who exactly these 'sources' are. The official site doesn't confirm this yet, so let's hope for the best. Whether the Stones add some dates in teh US and South America is still far from clear, but it could be, that the Stones won't let their holidays cover too much time - they have just played amazing shows and were in peak condition. So it would be wise to get back on the road before resting too long; after all, a rolling stones gathers no moss, hehehe ... November 22 - Auckland today!
Ladies and gentlemen of Auckland, will you please welcome the Rolling Stones! => Final show of this tour! Have a great time everyone! November 20 - Auckland vote is up!=> Auckland is coming near - and - sadly - the end of this leg of the tour... Now the page for the vote-song is up, so please go there and decide which song they should play: Some Girls / She's So Cold / All Down the Line / Street Fighting Man / Like A Rolling Stone. November 19 - Silver Train, Sam Cutler=> The Stones played Silver Train in Brisbaine and here's the video! Thanks StrawberriesBlueberries & YT! => Recommended Read: Good Old Sam Cutler took his sons to the Stones! Check out his report where he tells the story of how he and his sons met the Stones in Brisbane! November 18 - Brisbane gets rocked!
Ladies and gentlemen of Brisbane! Will you please welcome the Rolling Stones! => Another gig time for us. Great!! It's probably a standart now, that Keith does 3 songs in the set in order to give Mick's throat a rest. The same reason, I recon, should be responsible for the fact, that Out Of Control and Doom & Gloom have been taken off the setlist for the last shows, as both songs are quite demanding for Mick as far as his voice is concerned. But I won't be surprised if they add them back to the list again as soon as Mick gets 100% green lights from the medical department for later shows we can hope for. Meanwhile, the Stones are again topping the list for the highted grossing act on Billboards weekly Hot Tours tally! See billboard.com and dailymail.co.uk for more details... November 17 - Brisbane coming up=> Check out the vote page and choose from among these: Respectable, Live With Me, When The Whip Comes Down or Silver Train => Hope Esate: review and gallery (maitlandmercury.com.au) / review and gallery (theherald.com.au) November 15 - Hope Estate
November 14 - Great Hopes for Hopes Estate=> Yup: the Stones roll in. In Sydney, Mick was kinda careful with his voice, which is good, because of the gigs to come, but there may come whatever comes on tour: the band coveres each others asses for sure! Check out Respectable from Sydney and you'll see that this band of 'boring old farts' still rips off the ceiling of any venue you place them in, hehehe ... And here's a part of YOU CANT ALWAYS GET WHAT YOU WANT also from Sydney with a really nice solo from Ronnie: November 13 - Sydney reviews, Charlie speechless=> Sydney's reviews tell of one prefectly imperfect show (smh.com.au), that rock is now a premium package (telegraph.co.uk), why this was the concert of the year (news.com.au) and that Mick shows no signs of slowing down (smh.com.au). The insurance subject about the cancelled shows also continue in this article at independent.co.uk, asking whether they have got Keith Richards coverage? (independent.co.uk). => Nice read: the Sydney Morning Herald tells the story about young drummer Jagger's visit to Charlie backstage before the gig. Charlie was left speechless... November 12 - Sydney gets some satisfaction!=> Have a great show, Sydney! The concert has just ended - Mick seems to be doing alright and his voice is ok. He will be careful when singing for the next gigs but seems to have successfully overcome his laryngitis. Ladies and gentlemen of Sydney! Will you please welcome the Rolling Stones!
November 11 - Vote for Sydney=> Although Mick suffered from a sore throught, the Sydney gig seems to take place as scheduled. Quite a number of fans from the cancelled gig in Hanging rock were really pissed off - mostly because the gig was cancelled and there was no sign for a re-schedule. Meanwhile, the vote for Sydney is up, so just go there and cast your vote! You can choose from among Live With Me, Sweet Virginia, Let It Bleed, Just My Imagination and Rocks Off. After Hanging Rock was cancelled, insurance companies are battling over the axed shows. If you are interested in details, you'll find them at smh.com.au or sltrip.com, among others. November 7 - DUH! Hanging Rock cancelled! Mick has laryngitis=> Update: Tickets are refunded because the Hanging Rock gig can't be rescheduled. Why? Well, "the band has commitments following New Zealand that won’t allow for the Hanging Rock concert to be rescheduled to a later date". Keep in mind, that not only the band has to travel, but the huge stage, too. "The Rolling Stones are incredibly disappointed to cancel the Hanging Rock gig and to disappoint their fans but were left with no other option". => Shit happens: due to a major throat infection, Mick is unable to sing! This morning it was revealed that Mick was "under "strict doctor’s orders to rest his vocal chords" to recuperate for the remainder of the legendary band’s tour." A Stones spokesman said: "The Rolling Stones are incredibly disappointed to cancel the Hanging Rock gig and to disappoint their fans but were left with no other option." Many fans now have to review their travel plans and schedules. For the Stones that also is a pain in the ass of their logistics. Very likely, that gig is only postponed and hopefully is going to take place at a later date. ... What a bummer! Mick: keep cool and rest and get well soon! November 6 - reviews=> The Stones receive really good reviews throughout this leg of the tour. That's no wonder - if you have seen them this year in Europe, you know that these gigs are like: loud, stripped down, 100% Rock 'n Roll. So here is what Michael Dwyer smh.com.au had to say: How can these elderly gentlemen sound so cool, sexy, loud and nasty? Or James Wigney at the hrealdsun.com.au: Band have plenty to offer on 14 On Fire tour - Or Paul Cashmere at .vintagevinylnews.com: "Watching 70+-year-old men blow every act of the last 40 years off stage was spine-chilling. The Rolling Stones just get better with age." Or have a look at Brian Nankervis's three children (12, 16, 20) review The Rolling Stones at smh.com.au ... True: what a band! And how lucky are we beeing their fans, innit? November 5 - Melbourne! Keith has a heart, the Cloudes are gathering...=> I'm very sorry, folks! Today it was not possible for me to join in live; ... showtime is in the middle of the day and my office was *very* busy today - so, sadly, I couldn't post the news as usual. Saturday will be better! Promised! ;-)
=> Keith has a heart for an old fan - he sent 62-year-old Peter Stone three first class tongue-pit tickets for Perth II... November 1 - Perth II coming up!
=> Stones should be on every minute now... => Check out Perth I picture galleries at smh.com.au or at au.news.yahoo.com October 29 - Perth! Must-have for 5k, Stones explore PerthToo old? Nope, too good! Stones rule Perth Arena - au.news.yahoo.com Ladies and gentlemen of Perth! Will you please welcome the ROLLING STONES!
=> Today, we see the first of 2 shows in Perth and the Perth arena is getting ready (smh.com.au). Yesterday, Mick visited Fremantle Prison and Charlie the WACA (au.news.yahoo.com). => Book’s publisher Taschen has released a series of limited edition Rolling Stones coffee table books. Each of the 1,150 copies signed by Mick, Keith, Ronnie and Charlie will be sold for $5,000 (€ 4.000,- / £3,101). The unsigned copies, which are slightly smaller in dimension, are due to sell for $150... there you go! ;-) See also independent.co.uk for infos. October 28 - Perth is getting ready=> Nextup is Perth with two shows this week (you lucky swine). I guess, the Stones will alternate the setlist a little more given these circumstances. Generally, they'll stick to the show's concept we have seen this year. October 26 - Adelaide Aftermath=> The show in videos is not yet complete, but here is what I have so far. Great pictures by Melissa Donato of fasterlouder.com.au: => The press coverage has genuinely good reviews of the first gig the Stones played for this leg of their tour. One of the highlights surely was the capture of a stage runner during the new added ending of YCAGWYW - things like this haven't happened during their gigs for a long time, but this was nothing to make the band nervous, much less to stop them from playing. See the video-snippet about that incident below. October 25 - Tourstart in Adelaide=> Setlist:
=> Been at the gig? You'er welcome to post your review here at the comments! Yes, here we go again - what a band! That setliost continues, where it stopped in Europe before. Wild Horses and LARS were very pleasant surprises. More to come! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() October 24 - Yeeehaaw! Tourstart tomorrow!=> Vote your song for Adelaide! Choose one from these: Like A Rolling Stone, Rocks Off, Some Girls, Emotional Rescue, Dead Flowers => Some of the press: The Rolling Stones make their first public appearance in Adelaide after extensive rehearsals (dailytelegraph.com.au) / Legend of Jimmy Barnes rocks on with Rolling Stones concert (heraldscotland.com) / Furry fans at Adelaide Zoo ready for Rolling Stones extravaganza (heraldsun.com.au) / Stones back in Adelaide, this time without controversy - Lawyer tells inside story of 1973 tour (abc.net.au) / Adelaide Oval is ready for Rolling Stones lift off (dailytelegraph.com.au) / Rolling Stones concert tests SA scalping laws (abc.net.au) => Opening night is approaching fast! Just 1 more day to wait! It's so great to have them back and they all look great, innit? And here's a YT-teaser from yesterdays grilling at the Adelaide Oval: October 23 - The Stones check out the stage, Rehearsals=> Today, the band checked out the stage at the Adelaide Oval. They played, according to Brornulf's report (IORR) Tumbling Dice, Jumping Jack Flash, Wild Horses, Midnight Rambler (with M. Taylor), Sympathy For The Devil, Happy and YCAGWYW. October 22 - The Stage, Rehearsals=> By now, the stage nears completion and besides press reports by abc.net.au, dailymail.co.uk and smh.com.au, here's a video-interview with Dale Skjerseth, the Stones production manager, about the stage and the venue: Thanks to Bjornulf from IORR, we know that the band has rehearsed 18 different songs today - quite some work! I wonder if we could possibly get SWAY in Adelaide... that would be marvellous! Here are the songs:
October 21 - TV-Tip, Rehearsals running smooth=> If you understand German or and/can acces german TV channel VOX TV, then you might want to see the 4 hours (!) documentary special "Die größte Band der Welt - 50 Jahre Rolling Stones" (The greatest band of the world - 50 years Rolling Stones). I don't really expect much of new material, maybe even a screening of Crossfire Hurricane, but after all, they don't list those well known docus as part of the program. So even if you can't be in Adelaide on Saturday, you can watch the setlist here at stonesnews.com as it develops and later, you can check out the Stones for 4 hours at VOX... => According to reports, the Stones rehearsed Sway, Dead Flowers, She's So Cold and Silver Train, among others, today (Thx Macnee2! IORR). That's good to hear but actually quite expectable - they usually delve into their archives before taking the songs back on the road. The dailymail has another report with pics of Charlie, Keith and Mick. 'Rip This Bone' from IORR has assiduously listed the songs rehearsed so far for almost each day and thanks to him here is what we know about the proceedings so far: October 20 - Report from Rehearsals=> After the first days in Adelaide and only 5 days to go before the first show, we have informations about the songs they rehearsed. Mick Taylor has joined the band, too, so it's very nice that we can expect him to join the Stones again on this part of the tour. The Mail online reports about Keith arriving at the studio and Ronnie and Sally walking hand-in-hand along the River Torrens in Adelaide on Sunday. Acording to reports on IORR, the band sounds good and everyone seems to be enjoying themselfes. The songs they played were, in no particular order: Gimme Shelter, Out Of Control, Paint It Black, Rocks Off, Let's Spend The Night Together, Wild Horses, IORR, Doom & Gloom and Worried About You. October 17 - All Stones rehearse in Adelaide=> All Stones are in Adelate now and rehearsals have started. Bernard and Karl are here, too, so Liza Fisher should be there, too. No detailed infos about setlists so far, sadly, but that'll change, once the band and the fans pick up speed, hehehe ... After the long wait, it's only 7 days until the tour's gonna kick off! And here's a YT report from 9NewsAdelate from yesterday. => Recommended read: Rolling Stones reveal what it has taken to bring 14 On Fire tour to Australia (news.com.au) / Mick needs some downtime on tour days: irishmirror.ie Quote of the day: "We are not doing this ... for money. ... You couldn’t buy Charlie Watts if he didn’t want to do it."And here's a taste of the new member, Karl Denson and his Tiny Universe featuring Nicky Blum: "My Baby (does for me)": youtube.com/embed/BHn8p4rqVLQ October 16 - Rehearsals about to start=> The band has found a suitable place to start with rehearsals: on the sound stage of Adelaide Studios, which is part of the South Australian Film Corporation, set in the expansive grounds that also house, of all things, Glenside Psychiatric Hospital. Sounds hilarious! Thanks to Bernard Fowler, we have a pic of Charlies drum set, with the sign still reading "Closed" - but no fear, it will be turned and we hope to hear about the first rehearsal setlists soon! Read more: DailyMail.co.uk, AldelaideNow.com.au October 15 - Mick, Ronnie and Charlie in Adelaide / Bobby Keys not well=> Three of the band have touched ground in Australia to begin rehearsals for the upcoming gigs. Keith is expected to join them on Monday. Adelaidenow.com.au reports: "Mick Jagger was seen out dining in Hyde Park last night, while guitarist Ronnie Wood was spotted outside the InterContinental Hotel on North Tce at 3pm on Wednesday..." As Karl Denson has joined the team as a new player, one immediately asked oneself what about Bobby Keys? Concerning this, the Stones tweeted today: "Due to being a bit under the weather, Bobby Keys will not be joining the Stones on the Australian and NZ tour dates... Bobby is under doctors orders to take it a bit easy for the next month and hopes to see everyone soon." All the best wishes for you, Bobby, get well soon! October 14 - Karl Denson hired for 9 gigs, Rehearsals to start=> Karl is going to join Bobby Keys and Tim Ries on the next 9 gigs in Australia and New Zealand. The veteran saxophonist from San Diego was recomended to the Stones by Lenny Kravitz and is going to fly to Australia on Friday for rehearsals. Check out more details of how Karl and Lenny and the Stones came together - a nice read! (utsandiego.com) And so, we now finally have some information about rehearsals! More to come soon ... October 08 - A.L. Oldham interview, Touring the MilkyWay, Gus & Me on YouTube=> Recomended Read - If you haven't already seen this, have a look at the Andrew Loog Oldham interview of Goldmine Magazine. => After Australia and New Zealand, the Stones will probably visit South America for some gigs in Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Uruguay and Colombia. They maybe visit London afterwards. And after that, it could well be that they tour the Milky Way - the demand is there and their logo is well known in this galaxy by now, hehehe ... => Keith has 2 short teasers at YouTube about Gus & Me. Teaser #1, Teaser #2 October 05 - New Zealand Teaser=> The Stones have issued another YT teaser for their stop in New Zealand - enjoy! September 19 - New Stones teaser: back on the road!=> Ahead of their return to Australia and New Zealand, the Stones tease us up with a new clip at YouTube, which you can see below. Interesting, too is the snippet with the rehearsal-setlist. So the Stones most likely will start rehearsing in October in Australia. So, we're gathering up speed: the Stones are rolling & rocking again very soon! See also this article at dailymail.co.uk about it. September 18 - Stones to release Hampton '81 and L.A. Forum '75=> Stones will release live gigs under the title "From The Vault". First to be released will be Hampton Coliseum 1981 (2,5 hrs running time, to be released on November 4) and L.A. Mick's film, Ronnie's first album=> It's only 38 days left and The Stones have asked us via Twitter, which rarities and gems we would like to hear during the Australian - New Zealand Tour. Here are the tracklists: => It's only 2 days ago when Mick presented his film Get On UP at the Deauville Festival. ![]() ![]() => It's 40 years ago now, that Ronnie released his "I've Got My Own Album To Do" and here he is, answering some fans questions September 15 - After South America...=> Rumours have it, that the Stones are close to a done deal for next year's Rock in Rio USA [twitter]. Well, that would be really cool! South America is still very likely as are two more gigs in London next year. The Stones want to keep rolling, it seems, and we want them to roll, too! And hey, only 39 days left until Adelaine! Wooohooo! And of course they'll have to rehearse before then... folks, I can't wait for it! September 9 - Keith: South America next February, more dates likely, solo record finished!=> In an interview at Germano Studios (where he recorded his upcoming solo album), he talked with AP music writer Fekadu about the tour next year and his solo record.. He said that South America was lined up for next February, after the Australian and New Zealand gigs. This of course is also not an official Rolling Stones announcement, but it comes pretty close, I guess. He also said that after South America, Stones tours tend to get extended - that's a hint towards more possible dates maybe in 2015. He said it would sound like the band could be touring for most of next year. September 5 - 6 Stones movies on demand, Eel Pie Island, Sunderland!=> Do you like the Rolling Stones on FB? September 2 - Tour Rumours stable, Get On Up=> As we cound down the time until the new dates of the formerly postponed dates in Australia ans New Zealand finally happen, we can still hold on to hopes for more dates in 2015. That tour would start in February 2015 and will take the band to Argentina, Chile, Brazil, Peru, Costa Rica, Colombiy and Mexico until it winds up in April. The site stonesplanetbrazil mentions news concerning these plans would be announced within the next 2 or 3 weeks. Of course, all these things are 100% unofficial. But still, we sem to have reason to hope that after Australia and New Zealand, the band will go on to play selected gigs. => Mick Jagger, Co-Producer of the James Brown bio "Get On Up" will be in Zurich, Switzerland, for the French premiere and out of competition screening at the french filmfestival in Deauville on September 12. So far, australian band British India and The Preatures are mentioned for the Hanging Rock show on November 8 and for Hope Estate show on November 15. On the opening show at Adelaide Oval on October 25, the Stones will be joined by Jimmy Barnes as a special guest. July 28 - 15 ON FIRE, 14 ON FIRE, Happy Birthday, Mick!=> It's been a while that rumours started that the band would play on after the gigs in Australia and New Zealand this fall. Now, Bjornulf from IORR has added fuel to the fire of hopes. It's talk about several more shows to happen in South America next spring in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Uruguay, Colombia and Costa Rica! Woah! I mean, really, that is some good news, isn't it? But remember, nothing is official as of today yet. The pace ot the Stones tours definitey has slowed down during the recent tours. But if they manage to still tour on like this for some years more, I'ld be the last to complain! => Keith has been busy, too. We hear he's recording his own stuff some more and just beginning this month, he guested Alan Clayton and his father, Johnny Clayton at his house; Anita was there, too... you'll find more details at The Dirty Strangers FB page (thx, Buy Buy Johnny!) => Happy Birthday Mick! But since there are no more news about the possible gigs for Hide Park or anything like a tour in 2012 right now, I thought we could use the occasion and look back over yonder... Recently, a treasure of photographs were discoverd after photographer Peter Webb's negatives went missing after shooting the Stones for that monster record "Sticky Fingers".
