Ladies 'n Gentlemen: The Rolling Stones

The Riddles: Try your Stones-knowledge!

The Rolling Stones Name-that-tune-Riddle.

"Uuhuh, yea, but what's it about?"

  • Well, by using your immeasurable depth of your Stones-knowledge simply identify the names of the songs and which albums they are from, after you have downloaded and heard the little sound-files I placed under the riddle-links in the table below. ( Use the 'Mail-to:'-links under the riddles - they already have the right Subject-lines.) These little sound-bits are wav-files (see below for more info) and I took care to keep them very small. This was done for three reasons:
    • I don't want to be chased all my lifetime by career-driven Stones-lawyers because I violated some copyright of those songs in question.
    • Small files should be easy to download, even if there's much traffic on the net.
    • Last, but not least: those riddles should not be too easy to solve!
  • Requirements:
    • You should have a wav-able computer, i.e. the software in order to listen to those bits and pieces,
    • a speaker attached, or
    • - and I would recommend this - a headphone-outlet. A head- or earphone would make it easier to slove the riddles, because you can hear details much clearer.
  • If you know the answers at the first go - congratulations! You really are an expert!

  • If you don't, put the blame on me, because I really tried to make it hard to slove.

For your information:

I selected short, funny, remarkable, strange, characteristic, weired little oddities, sounds, voices from the off, crashed notes, slipped beats, or other animals of this kind, to make it more fun.
The files are (8-bit PCM WAV-files, MONO, with a sample-rate of 11025. Feel free to suggest any improvements or corrections.

Please don't forget to e-mail me when you think you found out the answer, and let me know what you generally think about this riddle. Is/Was it

Now, let's start!

1. Riddle !

(1:36 Sec.)

- More a Sound than a part of a song. But this is IMHO a very characteristic sound for the whole track. I'm sure, this did not accidentally find it's way on the album.

Same as riddle #1

(1:87 Sec.)

- but a little longer (21 KB, 1:87 Sec.) and together with some amplification at the end perhaps a little easier to guess. If Riddle #1 was too difficult, try again here before you give up.

11. Riddle! (11.1)

(1:65 Sec.)

It's blues-time, people! The first one is easy - should be recognized immediately. The second (11.2) (Real Audio) is from the same source. Example No. 3 (64 KB, 2:96 Sec.) comes deep from within, one of my cherished, favorite Stones-bits! (11.3) (64 KB, 2:96 Sec., Stereo). Listen, it just rollllls!! I really had to control myself not to sample the whole track...

Uuuh, this is one of the wellknown older tracks - but the bit you'll hear is not played by one of the Stones. There comes to mind another bit, which somehow sounds alike (12.2) (55 KB, 2:54 Sec., Stereo) but ...
