The Rolling Stones 50 and counting tour – Rehearsals

May 1 – Gig #0 – Echoplex aftermath

=> After all what was told by the lucky ones who got in, it was one hell of a show. 90 minutes flash by really soon but usually, the secret gig doesn’t last as long as the later gigs of the tour. So let’s see, what we have got: pics, videos …

April 26 – Rehearsal report

One more day at the rehearsals. Rumors tell, that yesterday could have been the last day, but we’ll see… Mick Tylor once again joined the jams and we have some more candidates for possible Taylor-highlights, like ‘Ain’t Too Proud To Beg’, a brilliant version of ‘Street Fighting Man’ or even ‘Moonlight Mile’! April 25 – Mick Taylor joins rehearsals! YCAGWYW-Choir chosen

=> As in 2012, a choir will join the Stones onstage for “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”. This time, the chosen one are the 26 members of the CSULB Cole Conservatory Chamber Choir! Congratulations! See everythinglongbeach.com and cslub.edu

=> Some more pics from rehearsals: Mick outside the site (thx ILevene!), and insite (Mick @ FB) and Ronie playing air guitar…

Mick at rehearsals in LA, April 23, 2013 Mick at rehearsals in LA, April 24, 2013 Ronnies list of rehearsed songs at rehearsals in LA, April 18, 2013

=> Yes, the man is in the house and according to our beloved rehearsal-reporter DAN, he’s playing on a lot of songs!

As Dan [iorr, sdb] keeps us up-to-date so good with news and setlists, I have just quoted his rehearsal-setlist including his remarks and only changed the layout a bit, so let’s all thank Dan and enjoy:

  1. Get Off My Cloud
  2. The Last Time
  3. Start Me Up
  4. Gimme Shelter
  5. All Down The Line
  6. Bitch
  7. Honky Tonk Women
  8. Ruby Tuesday
  9. It’s Only Rock N Roll
  10. Tumbling Dice
  11. Sympathy For The Devil
  12. Brown Sugar (botched intro ala 2003)
  13. Brown Sugar (restarted)
  14. Sway (slowed down, started from the middle?)
  15. Sway
  16. Can’t You Hear Me Knocking (long jam, ending redone)
  17. Love In Vain
  18. Shine A Light
  1. Midnight Rambler
    (MT smoke break)
  2. Little Queenie
  3. If You Can’t Rock Me (can hear vocals, Jagger is working this one as hard as he did on the Licks tour)
  4. Worried About You (while MT smokes outside)
  5. Beast Of Burden (is he playing on this? it was a 3 guitar song in 2002/2005)
  6. I Heard It Through The Grapevine (a lot more guitar than previous renditions, almost positive he is playing)
  7. Dead Flowers
  8. Angie
  9. ???? (something slow, real short, 3 mins but it was hard enough to figure out Angie under the teeming throngs on the sidewalk, someone ask Ronnie to post today’s canvas, the best guess was Fool To Cry but pretty sure that wasn’t it)

Dan gave this remark and I cite it here outside the setlist. So this comes after #13, Brown Sugar (restarted):
“… then a long break. Someone claims to see Mick Taylor go past in a van but someone had already mistaken Bobby Keys for him a few days ago. Rumors had him landing in town every day for the past few weeks. I was telling everybody I didn’t expect to see him before May 1st. But I must say seeing him get out of the van and hug Ron Wood was one of my most exciting moments as a Stones fan. I sincerely got chills. THIS was why I paid my money yet again when I swore I have given them enough.”

April 24 – Tourstart delayed for 24 hours! Rehearsals continue

=> The band has informed us, that they will now kick off their “50 & Counting” tour MAY 3 because of the NBA playoffs. We have seen that coming, watching the NBA playoff schedule. But that simply means that they can rehearse one more day and for those of us lucky fans with tickets for the tourstart gig to re-schedule travelplans etc.

=> Dan is our hero: he gives us another setlist from rehearsals, plus some short comments. He’s “dead tired” by now after those last days. Bobby Keyes joined in the party yesterday.

  1. I Heard It Through The Grapevine (jamming/possibly- too noisy)
  2. Around And Around
  3. Let It Bleed
  4. Just My Imagination
  5. Miss You (harmonica)
  6. Paint It Black
  7. Sweet Virgina
  8. Waiting On A Friend
  9. When The Whip Comes Down
  10. Start Me Up
(long break – jamming – a lot of noise at this point, saw Shakira and a baby, thankfully no one bothered them)
  1. You Got The Silver
  2. Before They Make Me Run
  3. Before They Make Me Run
  4. Happy (on and off for at least 10 minutes)
  5. I Heard It Through The Grapevine

  9. Rocks Off
  10. That’s How Strong My Love Is
  11. You Got Me Rocking
  12. Shattered
  13. Spider And The Fly
  14. and another real short attempt at a blues song and that was it

April 23 – The band keeps practising

=> Thanks to Dan [iorr], we have the latest setlist from rehearsals. More people are showing up now at the spot in LA. The Band is rehearsing cincerely. Some of the songs are not 100% certain because sometimes the sound was not clear enough from where the fans stood.

  1. Tumbling Dice

  5. That’s How Strong My Love Is
  6. Brown Sugar

  8. Some Girls
  9. She’s So Cold
  10. Respectable (stopped and restarted from beginning)
  11. Rip This Joint
  12. Live With Me

April 22 – Ronnies Rehearsal Canvas, Charlie pics

=> Ronnie has published the Song Sheet Canvas he draws everyday at rehearsals. They’re great. He also noted, that they were going to a photo shoot on April 20. Also, here are some more Charlie pics – he doesn’t like interviews but he seems to enjoy snaps with him here and there … It’s great to see them all well and sound! And last there are 2 Fenders, one Zemaitis and one Gretsch!

April 20 – More Rehearsals!

=> Rehearsals continue and again there are several songs which would suit a Mick Taylor guest spot, and for more than just one number! Now, more people come to the rehearsals and stand outside the area at the street where you can hear what’s being rehearsed. Some hold up signs with requests. If you like, klick here you can see & hear how rehearsals of Tumblin Dice, JJF, IORR, Gimme Shelter, Worried about You and Beast Of Burden!

April 18 – Rehearsal setlist yesterday, Club Gig?

=> Great! Thanks to henrik78 [iorr], we have a first impression about how rehearsals are progressing! We already could see from the pics (see below), that all are well and in high spirits. Now we can list more details – here’s what has been rehearsed yesterday, April 17. There’s even an article at examiner.com about this already!
=> Not a surprise, but almost a standart: usually, the band likes to perform in a club or small theater before the official tourstart. No wonder, we all speculate when and where it’s going to happen. As it’s in LA this time, there are plenty of possibilities. Until now, nothing definite is known about the when and where. However, that pre-tour club-gig is a strong possibility!

  1. Get Off Of My Cloud
  2. The Last Time
  3. Its Only Rock N Roll
  4. Paint It Black
  5. Wild Horses
  6. Dead Flowers

  21. I Heard It Through The Grapevine

April 17 – Rehearsals go well

=> Some pics from yesterday – the boys look as cool as ever! [thx maureen, UC] Oh, lookahere: “Tongue-Boots”! – Pics are from dailymail.co.uk, there’s also some text to read, nothing new, though… The venue is known by now, but there are security concerns by some and maybe we should not tell it. On the other hand: if you’re living there, you should know the place by now already. We only have pics so far, not a single setlist or song they rehearse. That’s strange… it’s LA after all … dudes get old … and their fans, too! LOL! :-))

=> Still no real details about what the Stones rehearse; FWIW, here’s what we’ve got: We know that today is day 2 of the rehearsals and Ronnie tweeted that all is going well so far. Bernard is there, too and he just tweeted today, that Waddy Wachtel stopped by yesterday. So we still don’t know, where exactly rehearsals take place and not only that, until now we even don’t have a clue as to what songs are rehearsed. So if anybody of you hears anything, please drop me a line!

April 16 – Toronto #3, Crossfire Hurricane

=> Today, the Stones have officially added a third gig in Toronto, Canada: June 9 at the Bell Center. Congratiolations, Toronto! By now, we already seem to have filled up the 18 gigs for AEG. and I wouldn’t be surprised if they add more shows to the tour.

=> The documentary Crossfire Hurricade will be released in the U.S. and Canada on DVD, Blu-ray and digital video on May 21, 2013. Eagle Rock gives this info about the bonus features: “Bonus features on the DVD and Blu-ray include previously unreleased concert footage: ‘Live in Germany ‘65,’ NME Poll Winners concert footage from 1964 and 1965, a new interview with director Brett Morgen, ‘The Sound and Music of Crossfire Hurricane, footage from The Arthur Haynes Show (1964), and the theatrical trailer.

Meanwhile… Let’s get the Key To The Highway:

April 15 – Keith @ Crossroads with Eric!

=> Keith shared the stage with Eric Clapton in MSG in New York last Saturday. So here’s a taste: [thx mackie! sdb]

April 11 – The world needs more Stones records!

=> in an interview with USA today, Mick and Keith raise our hopes for more tracks from the Rolling Stones! Let’s not forget: this tour is called ’50 and COUNTING’ with emphasis on the last word, hehehe. So after the tour dust has settled a bit, we can expect them to retreat into a studio for getting a new album together. That should be taken on the road then, IMHO! But read for yourself:

Mick:It would be nice to have a new album, but people don’t like the new album when you play it on stage… They glumly look at you. ‘OK, it will be over in a minute.’ It’s not a good excuse, but it’s the truth and has to be said.”
Keith:The time to record a band is once they’ve been on the road a while so they’re hot. We’ll think about that while we’re doing this. The world needs more Stones records. So do I.

April 10 – 18? Rehearsals? Setlist? We Kiss Anywhere Man

=> Until now, we still count 15 shows, including Glastonbury and 2 Hyde Park. But are those UK dates included in the AEG contract of 18 gigs? In case they are not, we can expect more US dates to be announced as the already confirmed shows sell out. And even apart from those 18 gigs, I think we have reasons to get our hopes for more shows fullfilled.

=> Still no words about the rehearsals in LA which could have begun already. And rehearse they will and they will also come up with surprises for these gigs to come. Mick himself said (thestar.com):

“We rehearse all these unknown numbers and then we get to them and we go: ‘Uh, I don’t know if we should do that,’” he says. “On those anniversary shows in England and New York, we were a bit gun shy of doing too many unknown numbers because it just didn’t feel right. But I think because we’re doing more shows on this tour, we probably will spread out a bit. I mean, we rehearsed quite a lot of different songs that we never did and a few covers that we’ve never done and that sort of thing.”

=> Another great version of the tour billboards came up: the twin Gorillas; [thx Teafoe, sdb] especially that line “We kiss anywhere, man” is just hilarious, hinting at that famous garage incident where they pissedagainst a wall after beeing refused a bathroom in East London for which they were arrested – “We’ll piss anywhere, man!”

We kiss anywhere, man!We kiss anywhere, man!

April 9 – TOURSTART MAY 2 in LA!!!, 2nd Hyde Park date confirmed, Keith at Fallon

=> OFFICIAL: The “50 and Counting” tour 2013 of the Rolling Stones will kick off in LA, Staples Center, on May 2nd. Tickets go on-sale on Monday, April 15, at 10AM local time at rollingstones.com.

=> The Stones have confirmed, that they will play their second gig in Hyde Park, London, on July 13. Tickets go on sale this Friday, April 12 at 9am at bst-hydepark.com. Barclaycard Unwind customers will be able to purchase tickets from barclaycardunwind.com from 9am on Wednesday, April 10.

=> And here’s Keith yesterday at Jimmy Fallon:

(video not accessible anymore)

April 8 – 3rd Chicago date, Mick and Ronnie, tonight: Keith on Jimmy Fallon!

Hope to see you on the road! Having a easy day and doing a bit of a practise for the new dates coming up

=> The Stones just added the third date for Chicago: June 3 (see above)! Also, they announced 1000 low priced tickets as part of the general onsale: Some will be among the best seats in the house in the Tongue Pit, with others spread around the arena. Tickets will be sold as a pair.

=> With rehearsals beginning within days, Mick and Ronnie twitter in between… Mick: “Hope to see you on the road!” and Ronnie: “Having a easy day and doing a bit of a practise for the new dates coming up” … you can get the shirt Mick wears at the Stones shop.

=> Keith on Fallon: don’t miss it …

RIP: Andy Jones – the legendary producer and recording engineer (Sticky Fingers, Exile On Main Street, 6 Led Zepplin albums among many others) died yesterday at only 61. We’ll miss him!

April 7 – more shows, surprises, Rehearsals in LA

The Stones hint at some surprises – one could be that Mick Taylor is joining them on more than a few maybe all shows. Then, they have added two new dates (see above Chicago and Toronto) and according to Keith speaking to the Toronto Sun, the rehearsals for the second lag of the 50 Years and Counting Tour will begin this week in LA! Let’s hope for some nice pics and details about the rehearsals – I’m looking forward to that, folks!

April 5 – Stones Sell out, refute 2nd ticket market!

=> Tickets for the Rolling Stones’s Hyde Park gig this June went on sale at 9am today, but had already sold out after 3 minutes. Tickets are already being re-sold on ticket marketplace Viagogo at a starting price of £1,097 each, with tickets in the coveted “Diamond Circle” area costing £2,500 upwards.

=> Mick has very strongly stated his view against the secondary ticket market. He said this in an interview with the Chicago Tribune and I personally am very happy that Mick has found the right words for that kind of business! In the 70ies we called those folks ‘stalkers’ or ‘dealers’ who sold either heroine or ticktes if only they could get their hands on your money …

Question: People are already fretting that the secondary ticket market will gobble up most of the best seats and resell them at several times face value. What is your attitude toward these secondary market sellers and are the Stones participating at all in those profits?

Mick: I’m very much against the secondary ticket market. I don’t know anyone who isn’t. We have a lot of secondary market problems in the U.K., it’s really bad there. And lots of artists are starting to participate in it, because they put the tickets up at a certain price, then the tickets get marked up by the secondary sellers and someone else gets twice as much as you. Personally, we don’t participate in it. That’s the view we take. I think it should be illegal, and in the U.K. it would be very easy to stop it. It’s a very concentrated operation you could stop immediately. It’s a bigger problem in the U.S., more difficult to contain, but they don’t even try. It should be made completely illegal. If people don’t like it, don’t complain to the artists. Each state should make secondary reselling illegal.

April 4 – Charlie interview, 2 interviews with Jagger,

Great Charlie interview at guardian.co.uk!

=> Recommended Read: this is another great interview with Charlie from guardian.co.uk about festivals (he doesn’t like to play outdoors), Hyde Park and the upcoming tour; or about the younger guests they had on stage in 2012:

Q: What about the younger bunch like Florence and the Machine?
A: “Florence, she was all right. Lady Gaga was a really good sport. But they hung about with my granddaughter more than they did with me. We’re silly old farts! I think Mick tries to keep up with them …”

=> Another recommended read: Mick is interviewd by the Chicago Tribune. Just two phrases will do: there’s much more (he disses the secondary ticket market!)

Q: … many people today who say they would like to go to the shows but can’t afford a ticket..
A: If you really can’t afford a ticket, it’s sad. I feel bad about that. But there are seats at different prices. We have some cheap ones that are quite good, too. There’s a price for everybody I think.
Q: … any new Stones music or an album in the works?
A: I have a lot of songs and I’d love to do some more recording with the band. But we’re going to get through the tour first and then see what happens.

=> In this interview with the BBC, Mick talks about Glastonbury and about asking Bono for some advice about playing there…

March 30 – Something’s coming on Wednesday! Rumoured and confirmed dates

The Stones will announce something for us on Wednesday, April 3rd! They accompany this by message signs with the tongue logo and phrases from their hits like ‘Start Me Up‘ or ‘You Get What You Need‘. The latter also appeared on Mick’s facebook page. And the ‘Roosevelt’ platform above could be in Chicago. It could well be that they will anounce the first leg of their continuing ‘50 Years And Counting…‘ tour. As they now are asking fans on twitter, if they had been at the famous Hyde Park concert in 1969, shortly after Brian Jones had died, we can assume that they want to announce another gig in Hyde Park this year.

So far, what have we got? Well, we have one confirmed date and that’s Glastonbury, Saturday 29 June. We also can consider about 18 dates this spring/early summer in the USA.
Rumored are two dates for Hyde Park, July 6 and 13.
Ok, and here’s the new DOOM & GLOOM edition:

Hi there, folks! I just heard on radio planetrock.com, that the Stones officially confirm their Glastonbury spot. They will play the Pyramid Stage on Saturday 29 June! You can see that also on the new poster at glastonburyfestivals.co.uk!
At rollingstones.com, too, the news have been spread and they note that tickets for that festival already are sold out.
See also telegraph.co.uk and lots of others for this.

=> Meanwhile, here’s some ticket news for Glastonbury:

TICKET RESALE There will be a resale of any cancelled tickets on 21st April 2013. Registration has now reopened here. TICKET PRICE Tickets for Glastonbury 2013 cost £205 (+ £5 booking fee per ticket & £6 P&P per order). Entrance for children aged 12 and under remains free.

The Rolling Stones app has this to tell:

Mick, Keith, Charlie and Ronnie will continue their ’50 and Counting’ celebrations on the legendary Pyramid Stage in what will undoubtedly be the highlight of this world famous summer music festival. Keith Richards – “We all had such a ball last year, and the energy between the band is so good, we can’t wait to play Glastonbury, see you on a summer’s day in England.” Mick Jagger – “Can’t wait to play Glastonbury. I have my wellies and my yurt.”

More and more rumours about Australian dates for this year surface. Should this come true, we are not far from hopes for a full world tour!! Of course, this tour will be different, as mentioned before – more gigs in one city, some days rest in between the shows… i.e. more relaxed than the last tours. But if they can handle it – we can enjoy the shows no doubt!

March 25 – Keith at rehearsals yesterday

Keith and Waddy Wachtel at Doug Pettibone session in LA, March 24, 2013

Keith was in LA yesterday – he joined a session with Doug Pettibone (Lucinda Williams’ guitarist) and was in the good Expenive Wino company of Waddy Wachtel yesterday. Keith and Waddy met Doug in the studio for an overdub session for his upcoming solo album. (Thanks to Doug Pettibone for sharing the photo, thx ro!)

=> Could well be that Keith is already in LA in preparation for the upcoming rehearsals. Easter is coming up and we will have more good news coming up soon!

And BTW, Charlie is also in hte mood and he’s swingin’ just last Saturday in London! Have a look: (thx Axel, uc!)

March 21 – Ticket prices, Hyde Park, Charlie in London, some more details

One more shot about the done deal for the tour just yesterday: With this contract, the Stones could earn up to $4 million or $5 million per show; this would mean, that prices for the top tickets (!) could reach $500 or $600 … wheewwww! Damn, that’s a lot for FOS-tickets, alright.
(But, if you remember, that would still be slightly cheaper than those of the shows last year!) However, there should be plenty of cheaper seats for the shows, too.

=> Very nice to read is this bit: The Stones will also play London’s Hyde Park in July, and may add European festival dates. Even further dates could be possible, but, of course, there are no concrete plans as yet.
Read more of this at rollingstone.com.

=> Some more details about the contract between the Stones and AEG for the upcoming tour surface. We’re still at not more than 18 shows in some bigger cities which includes several gigs at one place as possibillity. The tour will happen in May and June. Here are some lines from pollstar.com, where they provide some more details about Michael Cohl, Virgin Live and the now respondable AEG.

It’s not known what kind of financial deal was struck, but it was struck quickly – one source told Pollstar the call from the Stones’ camp came early March 19, and the agreement between the parties came together before anyone had time to call out for lunch. […] Dates are still being locked down, but Mick and the boys made it known they are interested in no more than an 18-show, two-month outing, which will happen in May and June. The number of cities isn’t confirmed, other than they will be major markets and the 18 shows will include multiple-night stands.

March 20 – Dainty-Virgin out, AEG in! | Quebec? | Keith’s guitars

==> According to Billboard.com, negotiations between the band’s organization and promoters are still going on, but should be finalized soon. On point of disagreement was a tour guarantee for the band worth around $80 million – here, Daintly/Virgin apparently couldn’t obey, but AEG has got the deal yesterday. With $80 million for the proposed 18 shows, the band would earn as much per show as they did in 2012. The long awaited official announcement can now be expected before end of this month:

A deal for Australian promoter Paul Dainty and Virgin Music to promote a North American Rolling Stones tour of a confirmed 18 shows has fallen through, and AEG Live has stepped in to promote the shows, sources tell Billboard. The Stones will still roll and an announcement for the tour — which still has not been officially confirmed — will likely come before the end of the month.
More infos at billboard.com.

==> One more shot: After Milwaukee, Bernard Perusse from montrealgazette.com asks why the Stouns shouldn’t play Quebec in August?

“Although no one has seriously talked about a Canadian date – yet – Le Soleil has reported that promoter QuebeComm, which brought Madonna to Quebec City last year, is trying to work out a deal for a Stones show, perhaps in August. And in this morning’s issue of Le Journal de Montréal, Sharon Kim-Dion, who works with QuebeComm, offered tantalizing suggestions that an agreement could be close.

There. I’m no prophet but I say: there is more of this coming at us soon, hehehe, and that’s ain’t bad …

==> This is one for all who know about guitars and especially those of Keith. Here’s one more great article about this subject which I can recommend you to read while we all wait for the tour announcement: Keith’s Guitars by Daniel Brooks

March 19 – You may pre-register for Glastonbury now! Milwaukee?

==> With the serious possibility, that the Stones will play Glastonbury festival this year, one might be tempted to step in right now… you have to register to buy tickets; you also need to send in a photo.

==> Latest form the rumour-mill: Could the Rolling Stones bring their summer tour through Milwaukee for Harley-Davidson Inc.’s 110th Anniversary bash over Labor Day weekend? That’s a question pondered by Jeff Engel from bizjournals.com

March 17 – Waiting on our friends …

As we are waiting for the official announcements, I’ll try to keep you posted about the news and talks as they are coming in. At this, I’m not trying to get ALL rumors that float around but I try to select those who are more credible than many others. Thanks to our friend phillirob [sdb], we now can review some of the pressconverences of the Stones in the past: from 1965, 1969, 1975, 1989, 1995, 1997, 2005, 2006 and from 2012! I put them all on one extra page: just click here, have a look and enjoy!!

March 15 – First rumors about ticket prices!

First rumors about the scale of ticket prices for the upcoming “50 Years & Counting Tour” have surfaced! (thx bv! iorr) Needless to say: without even knowing the exact date of the official announcement/pressconference, this is just being talked about. On the other side, it does not seem to be completely off the mark, so here we go: we can expect to get prices between at least $50,- and up to $400,- for the corresponding seats. Oh dear, the official announcement can be expected quite soon…

March 14 – Rehearsals? Charlie: 2 gigs this month, Two gigs in Hyde Park?

Latest hearsay tells us that the Stones will be in LA for rehearsals (thx Doug! sdb)

The ABC&D of Boogie Woogie featuring Charlie Watts will play the PizzaExpress Jazz Club – Steinway Festival 2013 on Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th March 2013!

According to showbiz411.com, the Stones will play two shows in London’s Hyde Park. The rumored dates for these spectacular gigs (should they really happen) would be July 6th and July 13th. After the official announcement/pressconference, we will know for sure.

Meanwhile, eventticketshop.at (see below, March 11) has added then possibillity to get registered by asking for tickets for seats or stands – prices are still unknown.

March 12 – Announcement countdown, Mick in the studio

From all we hear, we only have days left until we may hear something official. You know the usual routine:
1. rumours – 2.official announcement – 3. ticket selling – 4. first gig
So we’re still at step #1, hehehe …

Mick met Joe Walsh in the stuio, together with Ringo Starr, Tal Wilkenfield, Bill Withers, Jim Keltner, Keb Mo, Don WasTal Wilkenfield's headset mixer

Just last week, Mick Jagger met Joe Walsh in the stuio, where they cut some songs together with nobody but Ringo Starr, the beautiful and super-talented Tal Wilkenfield, Bill Withers, Jim Keltner, Keb Mo, Don Was and others. Now that’s what we can call a musician meeting, right?

March 11 – Tour starts on May 2, More dates in Europe in winter?

The kettle is almost boiling now. The tour start is May 2nd, according to RollingStone.com. From almost everywhere we hear hints about dates and negotiations. No doubt, it’s about time for all of this – shortly before any official announcement. Rumours fly high – for instance in Brazil, some magazine suggested the Stones would play at the opening of Palmeiras stadium – in 2014.

Also, in Austria, ticket seller eventtickets.at mentions a tour date in Austria during autumn/winter 2013. One of our friends got the information from them, that apparently a tour of 14 cities in Europe is planned and one of them at least would be Vienna of course.
[thx LukasM !]

Whatever be the case – a tour streching from summer dates in USA to some Europe dates in late 2013 and even adding some dates more into 2014 is by all means a possibility – given that the boys stay healthy, we can look forward to it.

March 10 – more confirmations, official announcement imminent

Now, Rolling Stone magazine too has something to add to the latest rumors about the upcoming tour announcement of the Rolling Stones. Rolling Stone cites ‘a concert business source‘ telling the magazine that the tour starts on May 2nd and the tour will start in cities on the West Coast – LA and Seattle. Then they might return to the East Coast again.

March 8 – The Rolling Stones are going on tour in 2013!

The Rolling Stones are going on tour in 2013!

Prior to any official announcement we get the news all around the globe joining in these days: The new tour for 2013 is on the way! By now, business talks must have been finished on a broader scale, leaving the tiny bits about the single gigs and schedule to be decided just by now. It’s just days until we get the official news, but you readers of StonesNews can be sure: They didn’t call it a farewell tour, they even said “50 YEARS AND COUNTING. Got it? All right.

Sources talk about DATES and not of CITIES – so we all can expect to experience multiple shows in major markets like New York or LA. This means: if you live off the big cities you maybe have to travel to see them. And this one I can tell ya: It’s been a long time since we have seen them play (unless you are one of the lucky few to have seen them in 2012) and there won’t be many more tours of The Rolling Stones ever – so if you get the chance: go get it!

Remember: once they get going, Stones tours have a tendency to keep rolling on for quite awhile. They won’t do a tuor at that pace and with that many different places they did in the 5 decades before. But if the spring and early summer dates in the US go well and they receive a nice welcome at Glasonbury – why not adding some more dates over Europe here and there during the big hot summer of 2013? Oh well, folks, I can’t wait!

Read some more lines about this at ultimateclassicrock.com, billboard.com

March 6 – 18 or 20 shows in spring! / RIP Alvin Lee

=> We’re getting close! According to examiner.com, the Rolling Stones could play about 18 gigs in late spring 2013, and all are set to take place in North American arenas. There could be several gigs in one city taking place in arenas. Pollstar.com joins in on this.

Ok, although this is still very likely, it’s still rumours and not officially confirmed. But we can look forward to getting the official data soon. So far, we only can expect gigs in USA, Glastonbury and maybe London. Those shows will take place in arenas capable of crowds up to 18.000 or 20.000 people. There are not that many arenas that size around in Europe … but we’ll see!

As for Glastonbury, the organisers have announced that the entire event will be live streamed via the BBC, who will be sending the festive shenanigans directly to desktop, mobiles, tablets and connected TVs the world over and offering viewers the option to select which stage they wish to enjoy. Cool, huh?

=> Sadly, Alvin Lee just passed away unexpectedly this morning. At his homepage, alvinlee.com, we read:

With great sadness we have to announce that Alvin unexpectedly passed away early this morning after unforseen complications following a routine surgical procedure. We have lost a wonderful much loved father and companion, the world has lost a truly great and gifted musician.

March 3 – Countdown for Tour 2013 Announcement

Still unofficial, but we can consider the following as something like a pre-official state of facts: From all we hear, we can expect a few shows in the USA – not many, but some. Also, a gig at Glastonbury seems to be fixed – the band has already decided in favour of this. Although no further dates in Europe seem to have been planned so far, they are not impossible.

Now we just have to wait for the Stones-PR-crew to organize a nice and decent official announcement – it won’t take long now. So let’s look forward to see them hit the road again. Mick and Keith both will turn 70 this year and there are not many bands I can think of who are going on tour at that age – we indeed are lucky, really!

February 28 – NME Awards, ABCKO troubles

The Rolling Stones won two prices at the NME awardsThe Rolling Stones won two prices at the NME awards

=> The Rolling Stones won two prices at the NME awards: Best Live Band for their gigs last year and the Best Music Film award, for their documentary Crossfire Hurricane. Well done, boys! They lost at the Brits awards buit won at the NME, ok so far. Ronnie Wood said: “I feel really grateful after all the hard work that we put in – it’s got to be fucking live, baby! We’ve only waited 50 years for it.

And Glastonbury? Last news we had was that Mick looked forward to it and the talks were promising. Ronnie said about the next gigs to play: “Keep your eye out because you know I want to do some more (live shows) and I know that the boys do too. […] I want to do it [Glastonbury] badly, but I’ve no idea yet … but I am just looking forward to. … I know we’re the best live, so I just hope we get it…”

For now, we wait for the upcoming tour – more tour dates can be expected to be officially announced soon…

=> ABCKO – that’s Allen B. Klein Co. – they hold the rights for the early Stones hits up to and including the album Let It Bleed. That’s right. Have a look at their Licening page and you can see what business that is. As far as I know, the Stones don’t see much of the money involved therein. With this in mind, one may understand why the Rolling Stones are threatening legal action to halt a new musical set in London’s Swinging 60s heyday which is set to include one of their biggest hits – Let’s Spend the Night Together. If interested, the independent.co.uk has more details on this…

February 9 – Prince Rupert

As you read this, the Stones are busy planning the dates for the 50 Years And Counting tour 2013. It won’t take long and we all will hear new details of where and when they are going to play this year.

There is a new book about Stones matters which creates a fuzz befor it is even published. The books title is “A Prince among Stones” and it’s author is none other than Prince Rupert Lowenstein, who was for many years the financial manager of the Stones when they tried to find a way out of their financial problems they had in connection with Allen B. Klein (ABCKO). Check out amazon for a look inside as well as the Daily Mail and the Telegraph for the corresponding news.
Mick, obviously, doesn’t like it when “your ex-bank manager should be discussing your financial dealings and personal information in public” and that’s what makes the headlines now.

January 30 – Glastonbury, Mick is top, Stones mobile

Mick tops the list! He has been named the most stylish rock star of all time! The Rolling Stones' famous mobile recording studio

=> Mick was asked about Glastonbury festival in an NME-interview and is seems, Mick doesn’t want to rule out the possibillity of playing there on the Sunday spot, although he is afraid of rain on Sundays there, hehehe:

“There are other things in the world, you know, apart from Glastonbury! But then again, Glastonbury is very important. It seems to be very important to my children – highlight of their year! […]
But is it going to be rainy on the Sunday? Isn’t it nearly always rainy on the Sunday?

=> Mick tops the list! He has been named the most stylish rock star of all time by lifestyle website Complex ahead of Prince, Bowie, Cobain, Sid Vicious and, guess what, Keith Richards!

Mick Jagger – Hands-down one of the best-dressed musicians of all-time, he definitely set the bar for flamboyant frontmen. From his crazy stage antics to his bad boy edge, his style reflected his personality perfectly: it was something that needed to be tamed, but functioned best when it was wild. Even today, he wears silk scarves and suits with more rakish appeal than most men – and he’s pushing 70.”

=> The Rolling Stones’ famous mobile recording studio is being restored for a future music venue in Calgary. A detailed article can be read at the Calgary Sun webite. The studio was purchased by the National Music Centre in 2000 but remained in storage since then. But now the idea is to get the recording studio in working order again under the direction of John Leimseider, the National Music Centre’s electronics technician. Former Stones piano player (and later road manager) Ian Stewart hired various engineers and producers to construct the console in the back of a van. The studio would be used for Led Zeppelin’s III, IV, Houses Of The Holy and Physical Graffiti albums as well as the Rolling Stones classic Sticky Fingers and Exile On Main St. The Stones also used the studio for its massive 1969 Hyde Park concert held mere days following Brian Jones’ death. As well, Deep Purple’s “Smoke On The Water” and Bob Marley’s “No Woman No Cry” were also recorded using the studio.

January 27 – Yesterday 50 years ago!

Dear folks & friends, this year is in synch with 1963 – today is Sunday, in 1963 this day also was a Sunday. And James Phelge, who shared that ridiculous flat in Edith Grove with Mick, Keith and Brian, has pointed out, that the band (all 6 members) had a gig yesterday 50 years ago in London’s Ealing Club. And like yesterday, is was cold in London and snow was all around. (Go to Phelges’ site and order his book – it’s a must-read for every fan!)

And it was yesterday 50 years ago, that Charlie came to the flat and announced, that he was going to play permanently with the band. This means, that yesterday can be counted as the real 50th birthday of our beloved Rolling Stones!
Yeeehaaawww! Celebration!

January 22 – Jagger: dates for 2013 not before april

Mick Jagger has told NME.com, that by as soon as april this year, the Stones won’t be ready for more tour dates. This, I think (!), would point towards another 3 or 4 months time for tour-preparation. Of cause, this is only theory, but that again could imply, IMHO, enough time to complete another new album, right? Here’s what Mick said:

“We’re not going to do Coachella because it’s too early. There was a rumor we were gonna do that one, but it’s very early, Coachella. It’s April or something, isn’t it? And we’re not gonna be ready to go by April.” But he has confirmed there will be dates in 2013, adding, “We’re not gonna stop.

January 19 – No Coachella, £24 million

If some of us still hoped for a gig of the Rolling Stones at the Coachella festival, you can now forget about it. According to NME.com, a source ‘close to the band’ has denied any plans of the band to play there.

So what can we expect for 2013? Well, that’s an easy guess: the last 5 gigs of the 50 Years and counting tour sold tickets for an impressive number of $38.6 million (that’s about £25 million) according to Billboard.com.

=>
I don’t think, that this number can in any way hinder the band from planning more gigs of the same style this year, hehehe …

January 15 – Trailer for Muscle Shoals

A film about the famous Muscle Shoals Studio is recommended: Aretha Franklin, Greg Allman, Bono, Clarence Carter, Jimmy Cliff, Mick Jagger, Etta James, Alicia Keys, Wilson Pickett, Keith Richards, Percy Sledge, Steve Winwood, Duane Allman and others all recorded there and we all must thank that place for the Sticky Fingers recording sessions. Visit the site at muscleshoalsmovie.com, read more about that film at Rolling Stone and have a look at the trailer:

January 11 – waiting for tour annoucement, Brit Awards gig

After 5 very successful shows in 2012 Mick Jagger himself said that he and the other Stones members are proving offers for more shows in 2013. Of course there will be plenty offers, it’s a safe game, right? All we need now is the official announcement of the new tour and it’s dates…

However, what I want to state here is something more: we all hope for another studio album with new songs and the corresponding tour this year, right? We have seen that the Stones have the balls to still deliver great shows – so now how about getting into the studio and lay down some more of those great tracks still waiting to be born? C’mon Mick, Keith, get it done: the world will like it!

Now, the Stones are nominated for the 2013 Brit awards! And they might also play at that ceremony! [see telegraph.co.uk, thesun.co.uk] They were nominated for the very first Brits in 1977, when many already considered them past their sell-by date.

Keith:Onstage is where we belong. When I’m up there with Mick, Charlie and Ronnie, everything is rocking, so a big thanks to Brit fans and the Brits nom!

Mick: “We all had such a blast. Everyone was at the top of their game and the hometown audiences at The O2 were just fantastic. It’s great to be nominated… we’ll see you soon.

January 4/5 – Didn’t I tell ya?

Yeah right. Just today I got word of that article in Rolling Stone [thx Porter, UC], where Mick Jagger is quoted with the following just 2 days after the PPV:

With stripped-down arena production, career-spanning set lists and a renewed focus on their natural kinetic-blues drive, the Stones reasserted their right, at these gigs, to the title of the world’s greatest rock & roll band.
And they will keep doing it on the road next year. “There have been quite a few offers,” Jagger says, two days after the final show in Newark. “I’m going to see what’s on the table and discuss it with everyone,” referring to Richards, guitarist Ron Wood and drummer Charlie Watts. “We’ll announce it when we’ve figured it out.

=>Update: You know what the SUN calls this?RESTART ME UP!” hehehe … They add some nice quotes from Keith:

“I just get the feeling they’re champing at the bit now. … Really, all you’re going to have to do is wait for an announcement. … We barely got off the starting blocks. It would be dopey to bring things up to this level and say, ‘Well, that’s that, 50 years, bye-bye.”

Ok, there you go! And therefore, if you want, just right-click here and download the MP3 of that gig at London’s O2 Arena, November 25, 2012… ENJOY!!

January 3 – welcome to another stones-tour-year!

Hi there folks, just had some days off, it’s good to be back! I hope you had some brilliant New Years Eve and all my best wishes for a healthy and joyful 2013 for you all!

Ronnie said it again (“We will rock ’till we drop”) and all other signs point into the same direction: it’s not official yet, but it is VERY likely that we will see more dates similar to those 5 in 2012. That Coachella ‘accident’ was also really funny: an April headlining date at Coachella was recently ‘leaked’ by the group, but quickly taken off again. Maybe they don’t play Coachella, but I bet that the dates are flying inside of the Stones management camp right now, hehehe …

And speaking of those wonderful 2012 shows, here’s a little present for you from Stonesnews: if you don’t have already, get the PPV here at piratebay.se! As for the other shows, those from London, Brooklyn and Newark, you can find them as WMA files at this huge site: sugarmegs.org (straight to letter ‘R’) – you’ll find all 5 shows there. However, I also found way to get them as MP3. They are about 5x the size of the WMa and you can download two of them right from here:

1) The Rolling Stones U2 Arena, London, UK, 2012-11-29 (204 MB, Right-Click, Save as …)
2) The Rolling Stones Newark Center, NJ, 2012-12-13 (182 MB, Right-Click, Save as …)
