July 12 – Hyde Park #2 coming up

Is that HP #2 already? The last show of this leg? Incredible! Tempus fugit, really…

Tomorrow, Saturday 13, will see the second and last show of the Rolling Stones in 2013 for this part of the tour. I’ll keep you posted, you bet! Gotta go off to Cologne tomorrow morning, but I’ll be right back in time to serve you with pics, comments, infos and news all around that final show of the tour. And don’t you worry! Europe is yelling for more shows and MOST probably, there will be more shows after a some weeks break for the band…

July 11 – Hyde Park Audience, Keith on Absolute Guitar, Glastonbury vids

Keith issue of Total Guitar 8-2013=> Thanks to our dear friend Lukuc, we can all enjoy the download of his recording of the complete Hyde Park #1 show! It’s a very good audience recording; sometimes, the audience is a bit louder than the band, but that just serves the atmosphere and truly delivers that great joy and fun those folks had during the show. So, please find the link for the download by

=> Thanks to Steve, who mailed me the info, we can enjoy the August issue of Total Guitar Magazine, which features Keith and his 5-string guitar technique – recommended even to non-players, hehehe …

=> Two big nice videos are up on YouTube! 1) CYHMK in HD and 2) the complete (!!) Glastonbury gig! Ok, GRAB’EM WHILE YOU CAN… 🙂 and have a nice evening … ;-)))

July 8 – Glastonbury! Soundboard! / Hyde Park #1 aftermath & Audience Recording! / Vote for Hyde park #2!

=> Ok, maybe we haven’t been to the shows; maybe we complain about this song wasn’t played or another went wrong – and from what we get from YouTube isn’t exactly like being really there at the gig, right? Ok – just in case we could get near the danger of forgetting how it is to be AT a Stones show, we can look at this really nice piece of audience recording here to help us remember, hehehe …

Stones roll back the years (Belfast Telegraph) | The Rolling Stones at Hyde Park – Even from outside the corporate boxes, it’s impossible not to concede that the Stones are still a fearsome force… (Guardian) | The Rolling Stones, Hyde Park, review – The frisson of four young, scrappy lads from the suburbs playing old man delta blues has gone but in the end, it is the music that has lasted best. (Telegraph) | Rolling Stones at Hyde Park review: Five-star performance dripping with memorable moments – A near-immaculate set that not just recreated the Glastonbury crowd-pleasing histrionics, but arguably surpassed them. July 5 – More Rumors popping up! Europe fall-tour with ~14 gigs?

=> An Austrian website boldly states to have 2 dates booked for the Rolling Stones this fall (October/November)! They state, that after Glastenbury and Hyde Park, the Stones are in talks for a tour of about 14 gigs in October and November 2013. Apart from the two dates in Vienna’s ‘Wiener Stadthalle’, they mention the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam as the tour kick-off. The tour could reportedly should then visit Paris, Oslo, Antwerpen and some dates in Germany.
Source: wegotit.at (thx kickit) – as for possible Vienna tickets go to the site of the Wiener Stadthalle.

July 4 – Mick hints! Song vote for Hyde Park #1, Amsterdam Ziggodome, Berlin? Social Re-Enactment

=> Mick interview with Absolute Radio here! He talks about the Glastonbury and upcoming Hyde Park gigs. At the end, he mentions new material he likes to write and that “maybe there’ll be things beyond that” i.e. after a break!

Also, at owensoundsuntimes.com, we can read parts of what Mick said to Absolute Radio (see above), that the “Stones will go on hiatus after their upcoming gigs in London’s Hyde Park […] Maybe there’ll be things beyond that, but right now this is the summer then we have a bit of a break […] I’m always writing new songs so hopefully we’ll do new songs one of these days soon.

=> The Song-Vote is open now! Just go to rollingstones.com and choose among these fine songs: All Down The Line | Rocks Off | When The Whip Comes Down | You Got Me Rocking | Just My Imagination.

=> Rumors (!) mention up to three gigs at the Amsterdam Ziggodome! That there could be a european tour of about 10 -12 dates is another one. That’s likely the case – as already mentioned: the Stones must have bulks of offers to choose from on the table. They’ll just get a little rest and keep on rolling! That’s my bet! See also the Mick interview and links above for this.
Other rumours tell of a possible gig atr the O2 Arena in Berlin.

=> Music Heritage UK and Hstry.org today launch a real-time, social media re-enactment of the Rolling Stones free concert in Hyde Park, London. The 1969 concert, which saw an estimated 250,000 in attendance, was one of the first major gatherings of the ‘counter-culture’ of the 1960s, coming a few weeks before the Isle of Wight and Woodstock Festivals.

The social media re-enactment which takes place in “real time” between July 4th and 6th will see a dedicated twitter account (@Stonesin69) share the sights and sounds, of the free gig. The young protagonist will bunk off school, hitchhike to London, remember the life of former Stones guitarist Brian Jones (who had recently passed away), and share his thoughts on the music played throughout the concert. Fans and members of the public can get involved by sharing their memories of Hyde Park 1969 using #Stones50 or #stoneshydepark on Twitter, or via Hstry.org where they can send in their pictures and thoughts, to be shared with the wider community. Music Heritage UK will also produce a series of in-depth articles around topics raised by the re-enactment which will be published on their website.

July 3 – 1h Interview with Keith, Tim Ries Project

=> At the BBC you can listen to 1h. worth of interview with Keith – 2 days left before it’s taken off again…

=> The Tim Ries The Rolling Stones Project featuring Bernard Fowler and Darryl Jones has a gig at the Nimax Theaters on July 8th, 730pm! Tickets are £21.00, exept the first 10 rows which sell at £31.00 – more details and tickets at their website!

=> Below: Lyric sheet of Glastonbury Girl; and the band backstage before the gig… And at the Glastonbury gig, I added five great pics out of the many more which Brian Rasic shot at Glastonbury.

July 2 – Europe tour?

=> Is there a Europe-tour coming up? So far, folks, sorry, but nothing particularly new has arisen exxept rumours and speculations. For example, people are counting european arenas with capacities of 20.000 and up… 😉 and there are quite a few. Also, ticket prices for this tour if it ever happens would be lower than in the US.

July 1 – Stones impress with Glastonbury debut

Their set at Glastonbury really rocked and rolled – just like it should, but a little better!

Ok, here’s the Glastonbury Girl (to the melody of Factory Girl – the video shows some of the lovely, groovy, mellow people at the festival. Enjoy!

June 28 – Glastonbury, Europe-Tour-Rumours, 2014 plans, BMG publishing deal, RIP Mark Fisher

Keith thinks that the Stones are not too old for Glastonbury

=> Glastonbury is in good mood, the vibes are cool and the tribes are gathering! The Guardian about “Why grandad rock rolls” Mick has already moved into his Yurt – his doughters were busy setting it up with exclusive interiours before – he will have his wellies ready, though.

Glastonbury 2013 - 1 day to go! Glastonbury 2013 - Mick and L'Wren Scott on the way Glastonbury 2013 - Mick and L'Wren Scott on the way Glastonbury 2013: Before the show Glastonbury 2013: Mick and his Yurt

=> Rumours for an upcoming ‘Tour de Europe’ keep popping up! After the three gigs in the UK, maybe this fall, i.e. in October and November they could possibly play in cities like Amsterdam, Helsinki, in Norway and maybe Germany etc. Usually and if they keep the stage layout as well as the economic scale as they have during this tour, they’ll need arenas with capacities around 20.000+ people. Other European cities could also be possible. Then comes 2014 and hopefully they move over to South America – like Colombia, Argentina and Brazil.

=> On Wednesday, at the Serpentine Gallery fundraiser party, many of the Stones family members gathered. For once, it was Bianca Jagger, as well as Mick and of course his current girlfriend, L’Wren Scott. Also there were Mick’s daughters Georgia May Jagger and Jade Jagger. Ronnie was there, as was his daughter Leah and his son Tyrone… here’s just 3 pics; some more at dailymail.co.uk.

=> Keith thinks that the Stones are not too old for Glastonbury. He also thinks: “It’s good for your health to play rock’n’roll in a clean living band like The Rolling Stones. You should try it. It’s better than church.” ROTFL…

=> The Glimmer Twins have signed a publishing deal with BMG:We look forward to a fresh and fruitful long-term business relationship with all the team at BMG

=> Mark Fisher, stage designer, architect and responsible for stunning stage setups over the past 25 years, died June 26th in a London hospice. He was 66, and had been battling a long illness that wasn’t identified in an announcement by Stufish, the firm he co-founded. RIP!

More Information

=> Aaaand more rumours coming up! This by no means is anything relyable but could stand for the general trend we all feel could crystalize into some real, official news. For now, it’s much too early, but WTF, here goes: More gigs could be in October to November in Scandinavia, Germany and the Netherlands. Also on the plan are possible shows in March 2014 for South America.

=> According to norwegian newspaper Aftenposten.no, the Stones might have an option for a gig in the Telenor Arena in November. Of course, nothing of this is official, it is just a rumour. If there is a statement, then it’s plain denial (by Live Nation). However, more gigs in the fall are likely, I say. That of course is 100% hope and wish and 0% official! 😉 But let’s wait and see what happens, hehehe …

June 26 – Glastonbury: gates are open now!

=> Glastonbury gates are open now, have a blast everybody! Weather forecast is looking good! Don’t you miss BILL WYMAN’S RHYTHM KINGS – Acoustic Tent – Friday 18:30 – 19:30! The Stones are scheduled at the Pyramid Stage on Saturday at 21:30 – 23:45!

June 25 – Washington aftermath

=> Ok, that was the last gig of the US leg of this tour – more to come? Well, hopefully! And seriously: very likely. But let’s first look at the reviews and stuff from last night and lokk forward to the UK gigs!

=> Reviews! Here’s one positive from the Washington Post. And another one from USA today. Oh, BTW, no problem for you to sent in your own review here now! Just use the Comments box above! Some people at the gig said, Ronnie had some trouble – maybe some of you can shed some light on this?

And I just saw one more hilarious pic from Ronnie’s tweet, it shows the boys and the police backstage before the Philly-2 show: “Just another day at the office ~ arriving for the second Philly show :)”. So funny! Here it is:

Before the show - The Rolling Stones - Philadelphia-2, June 21 2013 - Just another day at the office ~ arriving for the second Philly show :)

=> The vote-song for tonight’s show is online and you can (and should) make your click! You can choose from among these: Street Fighting Man / Rocks Off / Just My Imagination / You Got Me Rocking / Live With Me.

=> The Huffington Post has an article about tonight’s gig: Ladies & Gentlemen, The Rolling Stones

=> The town is buzzin’ with preparations for the last gig of the 50 years & counting tour of the Rolling Stones – at least for the US leg, that is. At wtop.com, you can see and hear about it – there’s even an interview with Shidoobee’s own StonesDoug! He’s up for his 154th Stones show: have a blast Doug!

=> The BBC and the Stones have settled the issue concerning the TV-broadcast. Michael Eavis already had already shown understanding when negitiations between the BBC and the Stones management started. He said, that the Stones really wanted to play to the Glastonbury visitors, they didn’t plan a TV show. But now the BBC will show the first hour of the 2 hours, 20 minute set of the Stones – so we can look forward to that!

=> Meanwhile, pass the time until showtime with an article from the dailymail.co.uk around the theme of Mick on Keith & Keith on Mick…

June 23 – Philly-2 reviews

=> Philly-2 reviews – One by Cindy Drue, examiner.com: really funny is, that she criticizes the camera operator for showing close-ups of the band members faces!
Because they are OLD!
She writes: “Let’s put it this way: plastic surgery is not something these rock stars have spent their money on – why torture [sic!] the audience by supersizing every nook and cranny on their weathered faces? A simple full-length close-up will do.

=> SPECIAL GUEST tonight’s gonna be Aaron Neville!!!

=> The band spent last night partying at the ‘Cuba Libre’ in the Old City. That’s common for the Stones near the end of a tour-leg to thank the crew for their tremendous work. In all there were more than 100 people at the party and the event was organized quite secretive – no pics or tweets were allowed. The Cuba Libre Restaurant issued a short note about the event and what the cuisine offered. And here’s a report from FOX news:

June 20 – BBC: 1 hour Glastonbury, Stones complete on iTunes, Stones roll forever, RIP Chet Flippo

One nice pic from Philly 1 with Brad Paisley just before going on stage:

One nice pic from Philly 1 with Brad Paisley just before going on stage

=> The BBC will broadcast an hour of The Rolling Stones’ headline set at Glastonbury, according to festival organiser Michael Eavis: “They’re going to be playing for about an hour for the TV.The BBC could not confirm the reports, but said there were “constructive ongoing conversations” with the band. More: BBC.CO.UK

=> The Rolling Stones released a career-spanning digitally re-mastered back catalogue on Apple Inc’s iTunes Store on Wednesday as part of their 50th anniversary celebrations. That catalogue holds the entire oeuvre, from their introductory 1963 cover of Chuck Berry’s “Come On” over even ‘Metamorphosis‘ and up to last year’s Greatest Hits collection “GRRR!“. Also included: the documentary ‘Crossfire Hurricane‘, ‘The Rolling Stones 50 eBook‘ as well as films like ‘Charlie Is My Darling‘, ‘Ladies And Gentlemen: The Rolling Stones‘ or ‘Rock and Roll Circus‘.
See Reuters or USA today for more infos.

=> We all know it: the Stones will roll on forever – at least according to Keith! The UK tabloid The Sun has just this as a headline and even cheers up all folks who haven’t got tickets for Glastonbury or Hyde Park, saying, that “this summer’s gigs won’t be their last.“. That of cause would be very nice: more dates for the summer in Europe 2013. However, here’s what Keith said and what they cite – then you yourself can judge what can be read from it:

“But the one thing I can’t kick is playing with the Rolling Stones. The 60th, you know, that’s a little while away yet, but all these zeros keep zooming by… 30, 40, 50 years. I don’t see any reason why there shouldn’t be a 60th. Either that or we ‘croak’ on the job!”

=> Rest in Peace, Chet Flippo, you are missed! Folks, you most probably know him as a former ‘Rolling Stone’ editor or from his book: On the Road With the Rolling Stones: 20 Years of Lipstick, Handcuffs and Chemicals

June 13 – Boston 1 aftermath, Find gap for new record, Keith article

=> The Boston Globe has a nice review, as has the Boston Herald. Another review at blog.masslive.com: “There was a refreshing rawness to the sound as the band (with a few exceptions) largely stayed away from the arena-concert crutches of loops and sampling, relying instead on the energy and fullness of the two guitars, bass, and drums, and Chuck Leavell’s piano and organ. […] Despite their royal rock bloodlines, the Stones still emit a street-cred cool that somehow makes them seem dangerous.

=> Ronnie has this to say in a recent interview:We kind of test ourselves in stages, in a way … This latest surge of energy coming out at these shows has proven to be a kick up the pants just to know that not only can we do it, we’re doing it better than ever …
[How about new songs?] Well it takes so much time and effort to take this thing back on the road, [but] we’ve got the big wheels rolling now. We’ve just got to find the gaps to record.

Go to WZLX Radio and listen to the full interview!

=> Men’s Journal has a fine article and interview with Keith – recommended read!

More Information

=> Tonight’s the second gig in Toronto, Canada! Everyone: have a mighty fine blast!
Right now, at 5 pm local Toronto time, the Stones do the soundcheck and they play a song they haven’t played to an audience on this tour yet. Well, there are plenty hehehe … but maybe it’s one of the vote songs!??! … Apparently, they played Ruby Tuesday during soundcheck!
Still no info about any special guest tonight. Let’s hope for Mick Taylor on more than 2 songs! – Apparently there really is no guest for tonight’s show … if that holds true, we get the Stones 100% pure!

Meanwhile, you can still vote for tonight’s vote song – either
Sweet Virginia, Worried About You, Street Fighting Man, You Got Me Rocking or Loving Cup!
Tune in on Raven Radio – they play the Stones!

=> Chicago 1-2-3 were sellouts; so the Stones made it to #1 on Billboard’s Current Boxscore!
And here is a nice story about the ‘Roosevelt University CCPA chorus‘ and how they were choosen for the three Gimme Shelters at the gigs…

June 5 – No Adele for Hyde Park

==> Au contraire to many rumours, that Adele would join the Rolling Stones on stage for their Hyde Park gigs, the official answer to that question is “No.” – see the The Guardian for this. But how about calling out for Marianne Faithful to join the band on “As Tears Go By”? That really would be a statement and an attractive alternative, don’t you think? So let’s see whether Mick has the balls to ask Marianne… 😉

June 4 – Chicago aftermath, New Stones Knebworth 1976 set

New and expanded Knebworth 1976 Rolling Stones set

=> We have of course several articles and reports from that last gig in Chicago: musicstaruniverse.com reviews all three gigs – so it’s a recommended read! Another report at alaskadispatch.com, Rolling Stone of course and Ultimateclassicrock.com. The Chicago Tribune has a nice gallery and a report with a very innovative headline… Most news reports cover the guest spot of Taylor Swift.

=> Henrietta of RockmusicMemorabilia.com informed me, that after the original Rolling Stones at Knebworth 1976 set is completely sold out, there’s a new and expanded Knebworth 76 Rolling Stones set. This time it comes in a silver coloured box, it’s limited to 250 and although the price remains at £49.99 (58 euros), they have added a few more items:

After the recent death of Storm Thorgerson they decided to give with the set, as a tribute to Storm, the circular poster he designed for the festival which is signed and numbered by Freddy Bannister. They recently discovered 8 new pics of The Stones at Knebworth, so now you get 20 photos instead of 12 with the set along with a 330 page book as well as 6 CDs and 3 DVDs.
==> You can order it here.

More Information

=> The Stones and the BBC are having a situation over the broadcast plans for Glastonbury festival. – We all know, that the band confirmed their Glastonbury gig for June 29. Now the BBC is having big plans for making it the biggest, best and most digital Glastonbury ever. And now guess what Mick has to say about these plans… he goes along the lines of “… wait a minute, we haven’t signed up for a broadcast, a TV show or even a PPV here…”. As a result, the band suggested that the BBC should broadcast a blackout after the first 4 songs… HILARIOUS! But then the issue is not only about bucks, for due to unforseen reasons like ugly weather conditions etc., the performance could suffer and the band would not look and sound at their best. Like Keith once quipped: “… God doesn’t join the band… he comes in form of wind, heat, rain, lightning, whatever … and he never rehearses!”. So: Jagger – BBC 1:0 so far.

Now the BBC understands, that this would be a risk for the Stones, but on the other side: a broadcast would show them to “a whole new, broader audience“. Over all, the BBC states, that these negotiations are quite normal at this point of the production and that their “conversations with the Rolling Stones have been extremely constructive and are ongoing“. Ok, extremely constructive, so now it’s Jagger – BBC 1:1, right? 😉

Rock Hall's 'Rolling Stones: 50 Years of Satisfaction' exhibition offers fans insight into the forces that molded the band

==> I have put that shows’ better VIDEOS so far known to me into an ==> Extra page you can open in an extra widow by clicking here – enjoy!

=> LA Weekly has a nice story to tell from that last gig; here’s a taste:
This was what hardcore Stones fans have been waiting for all their lives. This was why they stood in lines for hours, paid too much for tickets, missed work time or begged off from family obligations — just so they could follow the Stones around the state like true believers, dazed and ecstatic to finally hear those magic skeins of sound onstage for the first time. It was a real moment. It made up for every torture, every test of endurance and patience, every hoop that Jagger made the fans jump through.

Go there and read the full review! (print-layout)

=> The Stones exhibition at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland is about to open on May 24, 2013. Among the treasures you can see are a cape, stitched from flags, that Mick Jagger wore on tour in 1981-82, the Harmony 12-string acoustic guitar that Keith Richards played on such early records as Tell Me and Good Times, Bad Times, a sketch by Charlie Watts that was published in a 1966 U.S. tour program, Brian Jones’ custom Vox teardrop guitar and the original artwork for 1974’s It’s Only Rock ‘n Roll.

Well, last night was a dream come true for all Stones- and Mick-Taylor-fans! Maybe the Stones have read or heard, what was posted all over the net: that many, many people would like to hear Mick Taylor on more than just one or two songs (i.e. Midnight Rambler and Satisfaction). Last night, the Stones had balls enough to delf into Sway and Can’t You Hear Me Knocking – both of them hot juwels from the Mick Taylor years. That led to four (4) songs with the second Mick. All I can say about this is: please, please, keep that man playing with the band like last night!! That was a thunderous start but even then, there’s room enough to even top that later in the tour! So please enjoy the videos from that gig in LA:

Rolling Stones on the cover of the Rolling Stone

==> Also on Rolling Stone you can enjoy a band-friendly article called “Love and War Inside the Rolling Stones – How the band endured drugs, booze, tragedy and each other to bring back the greatest show on earth” (here’s the print version).

But there have been other, not so friendly reviews of the shows so far. Most of them ponder the subject of poor ticket sales. A ‘source’ from the band is cited with this: “… Total disaster. Too expensive and no vibe on the shows … it’s a terrible way to go out … What’s the band gonna do? Say we’re not going to play if you touch our gross?” Here are some of them, if you like: Rolling Stones face pay cut as poor sales force them to slash US ticket prices (Guardian.co.uk). That article also says: “The band has no new material to tour behind and its new management has allowed ticket prices, not the show, to become the story.“. May 4 – LA Aftermath

=> Wheeeww, what a night it was. The band sounded really well, crisp and clear. They did 23 songs – not bad for a bunch of old farts, hehehe. Especially Emotional Rescue was well received (see & hear video below) as this was a first for that song. Factory Girl also was one of the more rare songs in the setlist. And if apart from that all you get Midnight Rambler with Mick Taylor, too, you’ve almost arrived Stones heaven with one show. Well, Keith Urban was a treat, exchanging licks with Keith playing his tele (Keith played his Les Paul Junior). And of cause there was Gwen Stefani joining the band on Wild Horses – but she forgot her lyrics-part and had to mumble her way through that song, that was kinda odd. But at least she did know the refrain… and well, her singing didn’t really add very much to the song IMHO … Complaints? Of cause, there’s always people complaining this and that, but I’m not too fond of all the wailing. Oh, ticket prices: As Mick has spoken aut sharply against the secondary ticket merket, they now tend to publish tickets for $85,- before the shows in order to counter high ticket prices: the promoter AEG announced that a new block of more than 1,000 $85 seats (some of the cheapest on offer) were made available for last-minute purchase.

HOWEVER, I would not hesitate to suggest to The Rolling Stones something one hears in almost every comment the fans utter: Please give Mick Taylor more than just one song in the set!!! During rehearsals the band had plenty of numbers with Taylor – so why you not just boldly grab that opportunity and give the band and us that extra shot of salvation, please! 🙂

=> Celebs? This is LA, so there were plenty! Of course, there was Jack Nicholson, but he is there for the Lakers anyway, as Mick said. Then there were Pierce Brosman, Nicole Kidman, Melanie Griffith, um, David Hasslehoff and even Monica Lewinsky … pics and more of this at thesun.co.uk. Other reviews: LA Times, guardian.co.uk, bilboard, CNN-report about the tickets issue

=> So once again, we’re on tour with the Rolling Stones – the fucking greatest Rock’n’Roll band on this planet! Although it will be like 5am in the morning for me when they get on stage tonight in LA, I’ll try to post the tourstart-news live as they come in. I won’t be able to do this for every gig on this tour, though… dude’s getting old, hehehe …
I’m curious whether we will see many empty seats at Staples Center; that’s what the press reports, The Independent, for example. That’s why the Stones released low-priced seats ahead of the show“. Well, in a few hours we’ll see …
