July 28 – 15 ON FIRE, 14 ON FIRE, Happy Birthday, Mick!

=> It’s been a while that rumours started that the band would play on after the gigs in Australia and New Zealand this fall. Now, Bjornulf from IORR has added fuel to the fire of hopes. It’s talk about several more shows to happen in South America next spring in Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Uruguay, Colombia and Costa Rica! Woah! I mean, really, that is some good news, isn’t it? But remember, nothing is official as of today yet. The pace ot the Stones tours definitey has slowed down during the recent tours. But if they manage to still tour on like this for some years more, I’ld be the last to complain!

=> Keith has been busy, too. We hear he’s recording his own stuff some more and just beginning this month, he guested Alan Clayton and his father, Johnny Clayton at his house; Anita was there, too… you’ll find more details at The Dirty Strangers FB page (thx, Buy Buy Johnny!)

Alan Clayton, Johnny Clayton, Anita, Keith at Keith's house, July 2014 Alan Clayton, Johnny Clayton, Anita, Keith at Keith's house, July 2014 Alan Clayton, Johnny Clayton, Anita, Keith at Keith's house, July 2014

=> Happy Birthday Mick! Last Saturday, Mick celebrated his 71 birthday! Thank you Mick for all that music! You’re amazing!

July 18 – RIP Johnny Winter!

Johnny Winter - we miss you!

=> Johnny Winter, a rail-thin blues guitarist known for his scorching riffs, flowing white hair and gravelly, hard-times voice, died Wednesday in Switzerland at the end of his European tour. He was 70. He had emphysema, and was recently diagnosed with pneumonia. His last gig was only last Saturday, at the Lovely Days Festival in Wiesen, Austria. In February this year, he said in an nterview: “I realized early that what set each blues player apart wasn’t the music. It was the feeling.” He was that kind of a guy. His breakthrough was his performance at New York’s Fillmore East in December 1968… The WSJ writes: “Lanky and often clad in a sleeveless shirt on stage—exposing rake-thin, sinewy arms adorned with tattoos—Winter was known for wearing black cowboy hats, skin-tight jeans and pointed boots. But it was his icy, confident eyes and jack-o’-lantern grin that gave him the look of a poker player who just drew his fourth ace.

July 8 – Hopes and Expectations

=> Now that the european leg of this tour has come to it’s end, let’s have a look about what we can expect next. This tour has been extremely successful – not only in terms of financial success or the high standarts of logistics and organisation, but most of all in terms of the band’s musical performance and personal interaction. Despite the tragedy of the loss of L’Wren Scott and the forced break of the tour, we have seen all band members in high spirits and very much enjoying the shows and playing with each other. Especially for Mick it must have been like some sort of safe harbour, to be back on stage together with his closest friends.

Next up are the re-scheduled dates in Australia and New Zealand. But we also heard of a possibillity of some more dates in South America, maybe even in London next year. I’v seen the Stones three times on this tour and I wish I could have seen more gigs: the sound they have established for these gigs is really fantastic. I very, very much hope to be able to see them on tour in Europe again – but we all know, that someday everthing has come to an end. But as long as they can deliver shows like the ones we have seen just before and even if Mick can’t move across the the stage as fast anymore: as long as they show that amount of joy while playing their music, I can’t loose hope for future showdates of this greatest Rock ‘n Roll band that has ever walked on the surface of this planet!

July 3 – Roskilde today!

==> LISTEN LIVE !!!!! to the gig – though from a far distance and people walking and talking in front, you can clearly hear what is beeing played on stage! Click on “Web TV“! (thx mtaylor for the tip!) — AWWWW… they just switched to some other music from the can from the festival – hope, they return… better keep that window open, folks! => Today is the last show of the 14 ON FIRE TOUR 2014 – can you believe it? Once again the Stones have given more than obvious proof that they can deliver some extraordinary, exquisite and stripped-down honest Rock ‘n’ Roll. I wish they would tour on until forever, but … So after tonight, we have to wait until October for the shows in Australia, New Sealand and, hopefully, if we’re lucky, some more gigs in South America… Until tonight’s showtime, please enjoy the hilarious video with Mick and Charlie about Monty Python’s “bunch of wrinkly old men trying to relive their youth…“!

The songvote is up now for the show at rollingstones.com – choose from among these: Get Off Of My Cloud / Street Fighting Man / Dead Flowers / All Down The Line / Let’s Spend The Night Together / Bitch

June 28/29 – Belgium Classic Festival Werchter – RIP Bobby Womack!

=> Hi folks, just came back from Werchter today – well, the weather was mostly gruelsome but not so during the show, thankfully. It began to rain again before the encores came up. After berlin and Düsseldorf, this was my third and (sadly) last show of this tour. This time, I was in the back, everything very relaxed. And the sound was superb! The same as in Berlin and Düsseldorf: guitars LOUD and right in your face: it seems to me that the Stones clearly invested more money into the sound system than in the stage design… You really could hear every note and guitar-string that was touched, even the few which went wrong. The Stones now sound like a well oiled machine, so catch them if that is in any way possible!

June 11 – Some pics from Berlin-Waldbühne!

=> Just came back from Berlin. What a show! It was burning hot in the city and we had very serious thunderstorms in West-Germany in the night before. I was afraid that weather would affect last night’s show, but everything went well. The Stones were fresh and energetic. Some of the usual fuck-ups, but nothing to worry about. Mick once started the refrain too early, about one beat and the guitars seemed to try to get ahead to him, but Charlie kept the beat steady and so after some seconds, Mick came back on track. Lots of friendly interactions between Mick and Keith; Ronnie particularly was on fire. They played some solid 2 hours plus some minutes despite of the heat – awesome. And, folks, the guitars, I tell ya: LOUD, raw, clear and in your face! Just wonderful! For tonight, here are some pics – the first from Twitter, two from bild.de. The rest is from my camera, combined with very good memories! Please enjoy.

It could be Tina Turner is backstage; if she guests, it will most likely be Honky Tonk Women… Ronnie received his birthday present live on stage which was a big piece of Swiss cheese …

=> Soundcheck Setlist: 1) Bitch 2) You Got Me Rocking 3) You Can’t Always Get What You Want 4) Happy Birthday Ronnie [thanks bv, iorr!]

=> Today, the Stones play Switzerland! Charlie was seen shopping – in other words: all is well. At blick.ch you have some nice pics from Mick, Keith and Ronnie relaxing on their balconies at their Zürich hotel (see below). See also dailymail.co.uk for some picks from the airport.
=> Today we also see the Open-Air-stage for the first time. After Zürich, we will see it again in Paris. It take 74 trucks to carry that beast from here to there, there’s 2300 meter of cable and it takes 3 days to build the thing up. 20minutes.ch has some pics of the process and an interview with tourmanager Dale Skjerseth.

Happy birthday Ronnie! Mick twittered: “I’ve baked you a cake!” – so you lucky folks at Letzigrund Stadium today: give the man a BIG special cheer!!!

This line of songs will be something like the basic setlist we will get at the gigs on this leg of the tour. As always, they had rehearsed much more songs and will alter that list on every stop.

May 24 – Rehearsals at Telenor Arena

The Stones have rehearsed on stage at Oslo’s Telenor Arena yesterday, including Mick Taylor. They played 24 songs, among them like Street Fighting Man, Can’t You Hear Me Knocking (!!), SWAY (!!), Worried About You and Out Of Control. Keith rehearsed Can’t Be Seen and You Got The Silver. Bernard Fowler ran ‘ran into some friends‘ as you can see below, that’s Steve Van Zandt and Jane Rose (Keith’s manager). He also shot that pic below where you can see Darryl and Lisa arriving at the arena yesterday. See Mick leaving rehearsals in this video from budstikka.no – his car just drives by and he’s seen waving to the waiting fans. Finally, we are greeted by the Stones officially by this short collage from the rehearsals:

    More Information

May 22 – Stones rehearsals near end

=> Rehearsals near their end, today’s rehearsal was not as long as the ones before. As trucks were seen, loading in the gear, rehearsals could be over soon. Information about which songs were played are sparse, which is understandable given the distance waiting fans had to keep from the rehearsal room. Check out one of the videos published in Norwegian news at nrk.no or tv2.no. Mick was seen waving friendly out of the window as his car drove by.

May 21 – Stones rehearse in Oslo! RIP Prince Rupert

=> The whole band and Mick Taylor is in rehearsals in Oslo. Security standarts have risen and it seems they are really working on it. [thx bv, iorr] Not as much infos so far as, for instance, we had from Paris rehearsals in 2012, but the most important thing is that they are together, Mick is playing music and they’re still alive. I think, music can help Mick more to heal the wounds than anything else can. What songs are heard beeing rehearsed are Respectable, You Got Me Rocking, Emotional Rescue.

The former financial manager of the Rolling Stones, Prince Rupert Ludwig Ferdinand zu Loewenstein-Wertheim-Freudenberg, has died peacefully aged 80 just yesterday, May 20. May he rest in peace.

May 20 – Stones fly in to Oslo! LUCKY DIPs for Oslo and Tel Aviv!

=> First the gear, then the band and dress rehearsals, and within a very short time, the tour will start! The paper budstikka.no shows about 20 trucks which should have carried the stage gear – so the stage is beeing set up! By now, the band flies into Oslo, as you can see by the picture, Sally twittered – and where Sally is, Ronnie can’t be far away…

=> LUCKY DIP TICKET ALERT: Tomorrow at 9am local, Lucky Dip tickets will go on sale! Go to rollingstones.com/tickets/ at 9am for the secret links for these special tickets.

May 18 – Rehearsals have started!

=> Very good news here! Apparently, rehearsals have already begun and are going on since May 14. Mick also is seen at rehearsals which take place somewhere in London, it seems. These pics are from a japan fan site and from Leah Wood, the daughter of Ronnie and mother of a girl and expecting a second child. She visited the band at that small rehearsal site and you can see Keith being the perfect gentleman he just is. These pics show that the Band and Mick are getting it together and are well. More news will come through soon, I hope!

May 13 – Rehearsals should be imminent

As it’s only 12 days left until the start of the European Tour 14 On Fire in Oslo, the band is expected to rehearse before the gig as usual. Much more now, because Mick has to get into performing again and we just can’t imagine, how he’s feeling about it. Of course, he’s a pro 100%, but still, he’s only human. The whole band will support him as much as possible and, you know, life just goes on.

However, we still haven’t heard about the meetings for rehearsals. As Chuck Leavell has a gig on his schedule as late as May 17., if they meet before the 17., it will be relaxed and loose before Chuck joins. Bernard just tweeted zhis pic you see on the left of him with Mick Taylor and Ronnie, but I think that pic was from last year and it is not from today or yesterday… YES: it’s from May 20, 2013, backstage in LA, gig #7, LA-2. I wish it were, though! 😉 So let’s see when the news come in and we get to know soemthing more about the band after the shock and how they are going to roll on…

    More Information

=> Fake Tickets Warning! Fake tickets have appeared in Sweden for the Stockholm gig of the Rolling Stones. thelocal.se has details about how to recognize these tickets:

Swedish police have noticed that hundreds of counterfeit tickets were doing the rounds, with officers urging Stones devotees to be vigilant. “The tickets are so well made that the fraudsters won’t hesitate to post them to you so you can have a look at them before you pay. It makes them seem trustworthy but it’s just a trick,” Anders Olofsson of Sweden’s national fraud squad said in a statement. Would-be concert goers have been told to look out for blurred writing on the concert tickets, particularly on the smaller text, which may indicate a fake ticket.

=> Upcoming B.B. King documentary! “B.B. King: The Life of Riley” tells the 88-year-old musician’s story, from his childhood working in the cotton fields of the Mississippi delta to his emergence as one of the world’s most influential and beloved blues guitarists. The movie includes interviews with Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Carlos Santana, U2‘s Bono, Joe Walsh and Slash. The film, which is narrated by Morgan Freeman, will be released on DVD, Blu-ray and digitally in June.

April 15 – Rescheduled Australian dates confirmed! Two new dates added!

=> The Stones have just confirmed their tourdates for the postponed shows. Not only that, but they added two more dates for this fall: Perth Arena on Saturday 1 November 2014 and Hope Estate, Hunter Valley on Saturday 15 November 2014. You find the new dates just below the european dates above. Well, that’s really great, right?. The boys are getting back on track. The european dates were never in question during the last weeks, so this tells me that Mick is able to handle the severe blow of loosing L’Wren.

Some more technical infos from rollingstones.com:
=> Pre-sale tickets for the new Perth and Hunter Valley shows will be available via frontiertouring.com/rollingstones from noon AEST Tuesday 29 April 2014 until noon AEST Wednesday 30 April (or earlier if pre-sale allocation is exhausted).

=> Ticket holders who are able to attend the rescheduled date need take no action, their existing ticket will remain valid and their location within the venue will remain unchanged. Fans unable to attend the new shows are asked to secure a refund from their original point of purchase prior to 5pm (local time to the venue) on Monday 28 April 2014. Any refunded tickets will be made available to purchase from 10am (local time to the venue) on Friday 2 May, 2014 from the above listed ticketing outlets.

July 20, 2011 (and for eternity) – The Rolling Stones, Sticky Fingers And The Lost Photo Session

Ok, this comes a bit late. But since there are no more news about the possible gigs for Hide Park or anything like a tour in 2012 right now, I thought we could use the occasion and look back over yonder…

Recently, a treasure of photographs were discoverd after photographer Peter Webb‘s negatives went missing after shooting the Stones for that monster record “Sticky Fingers“. Then, out of nowhere, they are re-discovered after a gap of almost 40 years. Let’s have a look… oh man, have a look at Keith’s eyes
