And now they tease us in a very beautiful way: Matt Clifford published his little movie via the official Stones media. It’s a nicely done montage of short film snippets capturing scenes from Las Vegas. But what’s really wonderful to that is the music playing: it’s a part from rehearsals at Allegiant stadium and the band plays “Down The Road Apiece”! Well, I don’t know how you call this, but I am just in heaven, man! Check this out for yourselves:

First up: we have reason for looking forward to the show in Seattle!

Many fans tell of one very strong show in Vegas, that the band and it’s members were on fire and played at high levels. Even me, listening to Lou’s stream, can tell, that this show was special. There is absolutely no reason why we should not expect this to go on – the band also increasingly feels more and more safe with the new songs and generally gathers momentum. They begin to step on the gas, I think.  … Unbelievable!

The stage design for the Rolling Stones Hackney Diamonds tour is made by “STUFISH“

Ok, some more infos about what we see and hear when the Stones play and you are there. Stufish call themselves “Entertainment Architects” and that’s a good description – that team was founded by the late and legendary Mark Fisher. They also call Pink Floyd, U2, Take That, Madonna, Lady Gaga and Beyonce and a lot more their clients.

I don’t know what you think, but my impression is that the STUFISH team does one hell of a job!

Stufish already collaborated with the Stones on their SIXTY stadium tour as well as the No Filter Tour. Each of these projects are well documented on their sites and if you follow the links, you will find wonderful pictures and infos about these events.

As for Hackney Diamonds, they tell us “The clean silhouette of the architecture is derived from the simple geometry of a slab-like video screen that spans the full width of the stage and wraps around its sides. …

Placed in the centre of an ever-evolving digital narrative, the band performs within the immersive environment of a 700 sqm high resolution video screen that is 55m wide and over 14m tall. … Adding to the multifaceted geometry of this design, lights embedded within the screen and those enveloping the band within their performance area, create a multi-layered setting that breaks down the boundaries between the digital and the physical and places The Rolling Stones at the centre of an extraordinary performance. …

The three-dimensional quality of the structure suggests what appears on first view to be a modern, contemporary building, but one that changes its appearance as the night progresses. By the time the show is halfway through, the imagery and dynamic of the stage screens becomes more energetic and transformational. Taking references from both architecture and contemporary art, the screen content, produced by Treatment Studios in London, mirrors the pace and narrative of each of the numbers the band performs. …

Long-time creative director and lighting designer for the band, Patrick Woodroffe, says “The Stones have always been known for their imaginative and extravagant stage sets, from the early Lotus stage in 1975, through Mark Fisher’s groundbreaking Steel Wheels in 1989 and the wonderful creations that followed. Their stage in 2024 feels as fresh and as modern as ever, a contemporary take for a band who feel as current today as they were 60 years ago.”

While waiting for the first song of tonight’s setlist, here’s a snippet from an interview, Mick gave azcentral.com, May 4. Among other things, he was asked about the new songs in the set and this is, as I know, a very popular topic in fan discussion not only for this tour but for about 5 decades, hehehe …

And because Mick’s answer is well balanced and particularly sober, I’ll quote it for you here – enjoy the read and share your comment, if you like!

“How does it feel to have new music in the set?

Actually, really great. I love playing the old songs and all that. But it’s great to be able to have something new, because you haven’t done it before. It’s a challenge to you to get it over to the audience and see if they like it, to see if they want to hear it.

It’s easier in a smaller place to play new songs. It’s more difficult with a stadium crowd because they want to hear you know…. “Oh, I’ve come here to hear ‘Paint It, Black’” “When are they gonna play ‘Honky Tonk Women’?”

Are they gonna really like these songs? Are we gonna play them well enough? We haven’t played them that many times. We’ve only done “Angry,” like, three times, compared to “Paint It, Black.” (laughs) You go, ‘Ugh, I made a mistake! Oh God.’ So yeah, it’s challenging, but I enjoy it.

I would love to do more. We’re doing three. I’m sort of changing them around, playing the three or four that are the most well-known. I’d love to put some others in, but there’s only so much you can do, as I said, in a stadium. Red Hot Chili Peppers have got a new album. They’re on tour and they’re doing four songs. And I think we’re on the same page here, when you’re playing a big show. It’s about all the audience can really take. (laughs)“
