Mick’s birthday aftermath + 40 Licks

Mick - 2023

Mick has celebrated his 80th birthday with a huge party at Chelsea Physic Garden.

Of course, his kids were there as well as Jerry Hall, Ronnie with Sally, Lenny Kravitz, Leonardo de Caprio, his brother Chris and lots of other posh folks. Melanie Hamrick however was slightly handycapped – wearing a moon boot to cure some injury on her right foot, the cause for her injury is not known. However, for a ballet dancer like her, that must be a drag… so get well soon, Melanie!

As with every such event, there’s lots of coverage and pictures. So have a look at dailymail.co.uk for an articke and a gallery of 49 pics, hellomagazine.com, standard.co.uk, independent.co.uk, or tmz.com.

More on STP ’72!

STP 1972

It’s the summer 1972 and it’s time for the famous Stones-Touring Party (STP)

Now, some 60 hours of interview audio files with the band and their associates, that Rolling Stone writer Robert Greenfield had recorded during the tour, can be heard at iHeartPodcast series, starting on August 2. For 5 decades, these files have been stored in the vaults; now finally, we can get access to this material. That’s great news for every Stones fan, indeed!

Charlie’s collection at Christie’s

Charlie Watts plays Düsseldorf, June 19, 2014, pic by yours truly

Charlie’s collection of rare books and jazz memorabilia will auction at Christie’s in September this year.

Among lots of other things, they include first editions of Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, expected to fetch £250,000 or an annotated Printed Score for Porgy and Bess by George Gershwin. More on this at devonlive.com

Christie’s tell us:

Outside of fame his great lifelong loves were Literature and Jazz, passions forged in childhood and this unrivalled collection of modern first editions and iconic jazz memorabilia was built with intelligence and dedication and offer a glimpse into Charlie’s unique place in the history of Rock n Roll.

The online sale will take place 15–29 September, with the live sale taking place on the 28 September.

Check out the two viewing rooms for this at Christie’s:

Charlie Watts: Literature and Jazz Part II

At koimoi.com, too, we read that Charlie’s and mainly Shirley’s most of the 200 horses have been rehomed. They probably were passed on to Seraphina, but she – quite understandably – bid them farewell as this was ‘ too painful a reminder’ for her …

Discuss: Shine A Light – SFTD

Stones - Shine A Light

Hi Folks, Carmen C. sent me a mail some days ago (sorry for the delay here, Carmen).

And she raised an interesting question which we are open to discuss. As always, please post your comments and find the place to do so a little scroll down on this page… 😉

Ok here’s what Carmen is asking us:

We treated ourselves to the Shine a Light CD on a long-drive home from the Northwoods.
One, I think you can make a case that our heroes never sounded better on a live album than at the Beacon that evening, in particular the guitar weaving by Keith and Ronnie.
Anyone wish to debate?
Two, and the reason for this note, I realized that on SFTD, Mick skipped his historic “who shot the Kennedy’s?” lines.
Do we think this was deliberate?
For me, it was the most impactful and bold political lyric by any rock band ever. I would be disappointed to think Mick was pulling his punches.

Mick’s party plans

Mick in Austin, TX, Nov. 19. 2021

In just 1 week, Sir Mick Jagger will turn 80!

Since 1673, Chelsea Physic Garden has been evolving with the world around it. London’s oldest botanic garden is marking its 350-year anniversary in 2023, using its past to create a vision for its future. And obviously, he has descided not to hide away on this date. Not at all. Really, he has plans for a huge party in London’s Chelsea Physic Garden. London’s oldest botanic garden is marking its 350-year anniversary this year. If you look at their ‘What’s on’ calender for events, tours and worshops, you will notice that on July 26 there’s a gap – and this will be Mick’s enomous bash – he has hired the whole place.

As you can read at thesun.co.uk, mirror.co.uk or businessinsider.com, Mick has a huge guest list of more than 300 people and he will spend ‘thousands’ in order to make this event unforgetable and perfect – Mick style. We all know what this means – he’s a perfectionist and knows how to plan events. Needless to say, all band members are invited, as well as many of his celebrety friends and pals…
