Troubles A Comin’

Troubles A' Comin'

Listen to the new old track by The Rolling Stones, taken from the Tattoo You sessions!

The track, ‘Troubles A’ Comin,’ a cover of a 1970 Chi-Lites song, was recorded in Paris in 1979 while the band was recording songs for the next album, Tattoo You.

It is one of nine newly completed songs and rarities that will appear on the 40th anniversary Tattoo You boxed set. This will be released in the usual as well as deluxe CD and vinyl editions on Oct. 22.

Update: the SONG-VOTE is up and you can choose for tonight’s gig from among these songs: Wild Horses, Angie, Ruby Tuesday, Fool To Cry
=> vote.rollingstones.com

Yahoo has a nice article with some remarcable words from Mick and Ronnie:

[Mick] “I’m not saying we just touched on them, jammed on them … We can actually play them. That’s a huge amount. Keith and I were saying, the reality is that we have to do at least twelve, 13 numbers that most everyone knows…We have a couple of numbers from the extras in the Tattoo You reissue. We do ‘Living in a Ghost Town,’ which sounds pretty good. We’ve got tons of numbers from most eras. So we have a big set list. We can certainly change up the set list. But we still have to do ‘Paint It, Black.’”
[Ronnie] “‘Street Fighting Man’ has a new energy … Midnight Rambler’ has a new approach. We thought, ‘Oh dear, how are we going to do ‘Midnight Rambler’? Because there’s another language of its own in that song. It takes its own course now, and Steve, if anything, is leading the charge: ‘I’ll tell ya when it’s gonna speed up, I’ll tell ya when its gonna be dynamic.; To see Keith say, ‘Okay, then, you tell me’ – it was a really different thing. And Mick’s like, ‘Yeah, I’ll take that.’ Charlie would have loved it … There’s an energy that Charlie projected through his sticks, but Steve projects it physically as well. Whereas Charlie sat dead still, Steve is moving, and so is the whole drum podium. You can see the satisfaction on Keith’s face, on Mick’s face.”

Private gig – Aftermath

Private gig in Boston - setlist

As expected, after a few hours, the media snippets come through.

First, naturally, came the video snippets from the Stones own app (download and login to “The Rolling Stones” at Google’s play store), then to the ‘Fan Feed’, there you can see and hear some 1 minute ++ snippets of

  • 19th Nervous Breakdown
  • Satisfaction
  • Trouble’s A Comin’
  • Miss You
  • Jumping Jack Flash

Meanwhile, they have been uploaded to YT, as you can see below, so enjoy the clips! Thx to EdBMusic for uploading them for us!
Of course, if possible from these meager sources, you can tell that Steve Jordan’s drums sound different, harder and more precise, maybe a little bit less swinging than Charlie’s drumming. Quite naturally so – differnet drummer, different drum kit, different playing equals different sound.

Nevertheless, they sound rocking, egdy and rolling, hat’s for sure. Keith’s bandana has grown (hehehe) and it’s nice to see Ronnie on stage again and recovered. His hair though needs some more time to grow longer, me thinks…

As for the setlist: they left out one of the encore numbuers and didn’t play “Don’t Stop”.

More details are to be expected for sure. If you were at the gig: post some review for us here, please!

Mick: “This is the first show of our 2021 tour. So this it… This a try-out .. for us. I must say though, it’s a bit of a poigniant night for us. This is the first tour in fifty-nine years that we’ve done without our lovely Charlie Watts. And we all miss Charlie so much. We miss him as a band. We miss him as a friend. On and off the stage and we’ve got so many memories of Charlie and I’m sure some of you that have seen us before have got memories of Charlie as well. And I hope you will remember him like we do. So we’d like to dedicate this show to Charlie. So let’s have a drink! To Charlie!
Ronnie: “Charlie, man, we’re praying for you and we’re playing for you!

Private gig in Boston - Rolling Stones

Today, after about 5 years*, The Rolling Stones again play a private gig – and again it’s at Gillette Stadium in Boston.

This will be the first concert they play without Charlie Watts. The official tour-start will be St. Louis next Sunday.

*In 2016, the band played a private gig for Robert Kraft at the same place – in a tent in the middle of the field of Gillette stadium. You can see the tip of the tent at the bottom of the live pic below.

Rehearsals, Kraft gig

Private gig in Boston - Rolling Stones

The Rolling Stones have rehearsed more than five dozen songs during the last weeks.

The band apparently sounded great and when coming to or leaving the place, they had a wave for the few waiting outside. Among the many songs they rehearsed were of course the usual songs they play at every show, but as you can see the list below (not complete or accurate, in alphabetical order; but you get the idea…)

  • 19th Nervous Breakdown
  • Angie
  • Beast of Burden
  • Before They Make Me Run
  • Bitch
  • Brown Sugar
  • Crazy Mama
  • Dancing With Mr. D
  • Doom And Gloom
  • Emotional Rescue
  • Flip The Switch
  • Gimme Shelter
  • Happy
  • Hartbreaker (Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo)
  • Honky Tonk Woman
  • It‘s Only Rock ‚n‚ Roll
  • Jumping Jack Flash
  • Just My Imagination
  • Like A Rolling Stone
  • Living In A Ghost Town
  • Living In The Heart of Love
  • Memory Motel
  • Miss You
  • Rough Justice
  • Sad Sad Sad
  • Satisfaction
  • She’s So Cold
  • Shine A Light
  • Slipping Away
  • Start Me Up
  • Street Fighting Man
  • Sympathy For The Devil
  • Tumbling Dice
  • Under My Thumb
  • Wild Horses
  • You Can’t Always Get What You Want
  • You Got Me Rocking

Tomorrow, The Rolling Stones will play the private gig for the Kraft family.

They haven’t done this kind of gig for more than 20 years. It’s going to be interesting to see, how and what they play. I hope that we will get some infos through – like the setlists, some photos or even some live-streams, that would be great!

If any of you have access to any such infos, feel free to send them here, preferably as a comment below!

Rehearsals

Rehearsals

Just 5 days away from the private gig they will do for the Kraft family on September 20th.

So rehearsals as well as soundchecks are most likely going on. As for the songs they rehearse, infromation was very sparse. No wonder, for last week must have been really tough for them because they couldn’t attend Charlie’s funeral.

Nevertheless, this is what surfaced just yesterday:

  • Crazy Mama
  • Living In The Heart Of Love
  • Beast Of Burden
  • Wild Horses
  • Heartbreaker (Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo)
  • Flip The Switch
  • Ghost Town

Haven’t heared any more details yet. But we can be almost sure that they rehearse the set of songs they play every night in order to get the sound with Steve done. Then, of course, they need “more ammo” for the gigs, so they will rehearse a string of other songs which they didn’t play that often live, as well as maybe some that they never did on stage before. .. and then, of course, they just jam, too.
